I went into Gameworks with some of my friends looking for an old NES game called snow brothers, expecting to pay no more than $20, which is probably the lowest amount you can spend there, I asked the sales associate if they had a copy of the game. I was shocked to find out that they did have a copy, the only thing was i was told it would be $2,000 for the game. Me and my friends literally stood in shock and almost fell on the floor laughing. We asked him why the game cost so much and he told us that "the chances of us getting another copy of this game in isn't very high" So me and my friends left and only stop by to look at their ridiculously priced items. One example is a copy of "the legend of Zelda Collectors edition" that says right on the box "NOT FOR RESALE" meaning that not only can they not resell the game, which technically gives it a value of $0.00 but they have it priced at $80.00!!!! that's a 800% mark-up. Another story I can tell you is when I bought a Super Gameboy player for the Super Nintendo there. They had 4 of them priced at $20.00, which is pretty reasonably, 3 were sitting on a rack behind the counter, and one was sitting inside the display case, COVERED IN A THICK LAYER OF DUST!!! So I ask the clerk for one and which one does he hand me, the one covered in dust!! I looked him straight in the face and told him I wanted another one and he asked what was wrong with the one he was giving me and I told him that dust ruins games and he looked at me like I was crazy. I told him I didn't want that one cause I didn't trust their return police, if they even have one, and he reluctantly handed me one of the clean cartridges. Yet another story is when the Nintendo DS Lite came out in the new colours, the day before they were released I went into Gameworks to see if they might be selling any. The first thing I come across was a customer who brought in one of the Nintendo DS lite's, in the black colour, and he sold it to the sales associate for $120. So I went home and came back the next day when the DS was released, in stores with about $200 cash. I asked the same associate from the previous day to see the DS Lite and he took it down and showed me how it worked. I feigned ignorance and pretended like I didn't know anything about the system. After the demonstration I said I was going to pick it up thinking that since it was used I'd get it for cheaper than what every other store was selling it for. So he goes to ring it up on the cash register and tells me it's going to be $500!!!! I cannot tell you the amount of disbelief on my face, my mouth literally dropped to the floor. So I asked him why it was so much when other stores we're selling it for $150 and he told me that he ordered it online from Europe and that it was a limited edition DS of which there were only a few of its kind. At this point I broke out laughing and told him I saw him buying it off a customer the previous day and how there is no way it was worth $500 because even if it was from Europe every Nintendo DS is region free, meaning you can play games from any region on it. He basically told me I was fibbing at which point I told him he was a joke and went over to the local Wal Mart and bought the very same exact Nintendo DS for $160. After I bought the Nintendo DS I decided to go back to Gameworks and tell them off. So I went inside pulled out the Nintendo DS and told them what a joke their store was, I showed him the Nintendo DS that I purchased and showed him how it had the exact same features as the one he was trying to sell for $500, showed him the receipt and said "this money could have been yours" and told him I was going to never give them business again. The fact of the matter is Gameworks is THE WORST STORE in Richmond Hill. Their associates constantly try to rip you off and everything in their store is way OVER PRICED! I would not recommend Gameworks to my worst enemy and my advice is to STAY AWAY from this store at all costs! Addendum Nov 15/08: Details, trust me my friend I'll never forget these details, but then again allow me to fill in those important details that you forgot to put in, you know those pesky little things that can sway an otherwise one sided argument. As far as Snow Brothers goes I don't doubt its authenticity and I don't have a problem with the fact that your selling it for $2000. The truth is I have never seen this seal copy of Snow Brothers and the fact of the matter is it was never brought out or put on display along side your other "marvelous items"! My problem is the fact you would recommended a $2000 item to a customer who was looking to spend around $20. Even if the game is worth $50, which is what I ended up getting it for, you don't jump from $20 to $2000. I don't know about you but most people, let alone kids, don't carry $2000 on them, but I'm sure your business would be thriving if they did. But don't worry if its in such immaculate condition then someone surely has bought it by now, right??

Approximate cost of services:
$2,000.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
This store needs to improve almost everything. Not only are the sales associates incompetent but they don't know much about video games in general. I took an atari game into the store because the cartridge wasn't a usual one and they told me it was for coleco vision game! On top of that they need to have more reasonable prices on their merchandise. If you go in the store to buy certain games they will usually jack up the price, claiming that it usually goes for their asking price on Ebay.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
STAY AWAY FROM THIS STORE AT ALL COSTS!!!

Thank you for the "glowing review" and the time it must have taken you to type it. However, what you failed to mention in your rant, are the details. Those pesky little things that can sway an otherwise one sided argument.

But, nevertheless I feel compelled to respond. Not to defend myself or argue your "points" as they are in fact accurate, but to fill in some of your blanks.

You forgot to mention in your rant that the copy of SNOW BROS. (already a very rare game) for the NES was BRAND NEW... As in a "SEALED" Original Nintendo Game. The box was in PERFECT condition with 8 Razor sharp corners and absolutely no "shelf wear" on the now almost 20 year old game. Like all our sealed games it comes stored in a custom Lucite case. Remarkable! A used (loose)cartridge sells for $50-60 and one in the box sells for over $100. A Mint condition (BOX / instructions) sells for $150+... I said "the chances of us getting another SEALED copy of this game in aren’t very high" and that is true. Sorry I wasn't going to satisfy your $20 dream with one of our many sealed original NES and SNES games. However, If you do come across ANY sealed NES games for $20... Buy them! But you don't need to drive back to my store to show me what you got.

-- The Zelda--? A limited Edition Zelda game released back in November 2003 that only came bundled with a Gamecube? You're right... It should be free. Oh, and 800% of Zero is Zero. But we knew what you meant. Once again, if you can find someone selling this game for free... buy it... Hell, buy two!

What next? The DS lite. A truly one of a kind "Matte" black (not the shiny one widely available here) Nintendo DS made by Nintendo for the pre-release party of the DS in Japan. The system was etched with the Nintendo logo in gold and barcoded "PROTOTYPE NDS002" on the back... Even the stylus was black and gold plated. “A thing of beauty”. That customer... (The short little Asian man is the Head of Marketing for Nintendo of Canada. Did you see the Bentley parked out front?)... Is a friend. He also brought me a yellow one 2 days later. I sold them both a week later for... Guess how much?

My personal belief is: "Any free advertising... good or bad... is still FREE ADVERTISING"... So thank you for the right-up and keep spreading the word about our store and our incredible selection of vintage overpriced junk to all your friends and enemies. You are still welcome to come and marvel at all the things we have for sale. We have plenty of items for sale priced between $5-20 Not to mention all the latest PS3, Wii and 360 games (usually priced at or below retail)
