Santos talked up the job to be a lot more difficult than it actually was. A U-bend sewage pipe was replaced with a straight pipe: it required some digging but all-in-all, it was a very straightforward job. The work took just four hours, for which he charged $1,469. Igor, the workman, spoke English very poorly and so communicating with him was difficult. When I questioned him on one aspect of the job, he threw down his tools and shouted at me for daring to question him. It was like witnessing a five-year-old having a tantrum. Part of the job was to examine the pipes with a camera. It was only on my insistence that Santos finally appeared with the equipment. He then made me feel as if he was doing me a great favour in performing the examination. He kept hurrying me along because the camera was required on another job, despite the cost of this work being included in the original quote. Although the work was completed satisfactorily, in my opinion, it was overpriced. I would not recommend this company: shop around for more reasonable rates instead.

Company Response

First of all Monica you called me to come and take a look at this job 3 months ago. When I arrived I had to wait in line, you had there 4 other companies all of them where telling you that you had water proof problem and they were asking you from $12,000 to $17,000 to fix your problem and I know that and you know that because when they finished talking to you they came to talk to me and you witness that. Finally when it was my turn I spent 2hrs running video camera and found a true problem. It was a floor drain issue not a waterproofing. I saved you thousands $. You were so happy you gave me the job right on the spot. We started job 3 days later and when we broke the floor you started to become very difficult, question everything. When you noticed that job was going to fast you start requesting extra work that was not in the contract. You asked Igor to do much more work that was not on contract. Igor phone me and told me what you asking for to be done and you wanted done for free. With my permission I told Igor to say no. That's when you became very upset. Questioning him if he was legal in Canada, how long he has been in Canada, how much I was paying him. Sorry for him to acted as 5 yrs old with a tantrum. Just 45 yrs old man husband and father defending his dignity. And by the way you only mentioned about Igor, about his English but you forgot that he was working with a partner Ivan which he has University degree and speak English fluently and Ukrainian and Russian. You are British born and I have a hard time understanding you and I've been in Canada for 35 years.
You mentioned that I rushed you doing camera inspection, first of all I gave you camera inspection before we started job for free. Second of all you made me placed that camera in every whole that you found in your house for free. And you not satisfied and threatened me if I did not give you a $200 discount that you were going to give me a bad review and HomeStars and I told you I do not pay for reviews like other companies. You did not give me a cheque, you made me come back next day and spent 2 hrs changing your kitchen sink on 3rd floor, water valves and water supply lines to the sink and for FREE. Unfortunately it was not enough for you....and you wanted me to fix your hot water in the washroom. Than I told you enough is enough that I was going to see you in Court. Then you thought about it and gave me the cheque for $1,469 which include HST 13% that going to Government not to me. You gave me this review on Sep 16 and you also tried to put my company down with BBB which I'm A+ took me 20 yrs to build A+. But thanks to BBB they told you how I can charge to much when we both agreed on contract. Unfortunately HomeStars they do not investigate and let clients write any bad reviews without any proof. HomeStars forget they are organization paid by contractors. And please investigate your reviews coming to HomeStars or do not renew my company next year.

My experience with this company, in particular with Mary was a nightmare. I originally placed an order by phone to have a stair carpet fitted, which included taking up the old carpet. Mary quoted the price on the phone, and mentioned that lifting the stair carpet would cost $85 (inclusive of HST). The stair carpet was taken up before the fitters came and I called Mary on the day asking that the bill be adjusted to reflect this. She promised to call me back within 10 minutes to confirm the new amount. She never called. In the meantime the fitters were impatiently demanding that I sign the bill acknowledging that the work had been done. The fitters then handed me a copy of the bill, which looked like something that had been prepared by a preschooler: Mary had simply scrawled the total amount payable on it, with no breakdown of the various costs involved or how much carpet had been used. Subsequently the full amount of the bill was charged to my credit card, despite Mary having assured me the cost of lifting the stair carpet would be deducted. I then spent almost a month calling and emailing Mary to obtain a breakdown of the bill and requesting a refund of the overpayment of $85. She failed to return my calls and seldom replied to my emails. Eventually I wrote to her colleague in the hope of embarrassing Mary because of her inaction, which seemed to do the trick. I was finally refunded $56, which was considerably less than what Mary had verbally quoted on the phone. Unfortunately, as there was no breakdown on the bill of the costs involved, my credit card company was unwilling to refund the difference. A word of warning: if after reading my comments you still choose to order from Citi Flooring, make sure that you obtain a fully detailed WRITTEN quote BEFORE you place your order. Better still, order from somebody else!
