Horrible experience with Home Depot replacing my shingles. This was aprox. 4 years ago. Home Depot hires out to contractors, I looked up the company they hired out to and they seemed top notch. What I did not know was that when that contractor is to busy THEY hire out to another contractor. So, we were given a date for installation and the salesman told us it would take a day or two to complete. We had a 25' mid-cabin boat in our drive and asked our neighbours if we could put it there for those couple of days (good people). The shingles arrived a couple of days before the job was to be done along with the trash bin. Day before installation got a call from the contractor telling us that they would be here at 9 to start. At aprox. 11:30 I called to find out where they were. I had to wait for a call back which came about 7 that evening. They were held up because of a job they were doing that was delayed by weather conditions and would do our place in a couple of days. After a no show for 3 more days I called again to find out what was going on. No one called back until the next morning and we were told then that the boon was broke and had to be fixed to lift the shingles to the second floor. A couple of days later, two young men (about 20 years) showed up at 11 am without a ladder, knee or elbow pads and no harnesses for safety sake. My husband loaned them the one set of knee pads he had and our ladder. They worked carrying up shingles for about an hour. Then left for lunch and never returned that day. I phoned and complained and the next day they did arrive about 9 am and worked for about 3 hours that day. To make a long story shorter it took aprox. 3 weeks to get the job done. After I had to get pretty firm with them the original contractor came out by himself and finished the job up. He said it was a good thing he came out for they had left a 3'x3' area by a window peak down to bare wood (although they said they were finished.) He fixed that and from his face knew they would never hire out to that contractor again. Both my husband and I are afraid of heights so had not checked it ourselves. Home Depot has a clause that holds back 10% of the total cost if you are not satisfied with the job. I had to fight for it but I did not have to pay that 10% at least. I wrote Home Depots head office and never received a word back from them. I really don't know why I even expected that they would. Beware, I had even done my homework before hiring them.

I had all my front windows replaced by Northern Comfort two years ago. My husband and I could not get over how the two men working on them were so professional and took pride in their work. When they cleaned up you would never even know they had been here. So this year it was time to replace the back windows and patio door. Asked for the same salesman, Barry (a real gem, not hard sell or pushy)and the same team that had done the front windows, Dave and Jessie. Once again was extremely pleased with the job and the work efforts. I did have an issue with a mark left in between the double pane windows of the patio doors. Called Northern comfort and those panes have already been replaced. The screens from the front window were tight and hard to remove (we thought we were doing something wrong). The gentlemen that was there to check the patio door agreed and took them all and Northern Comfort is replacing them without me even asking. NO doubt about it, if I had more than two thumbs they would all be up for this company. Thank you Northern Comfort and gentlemen for making such a large job so easy and snag free!!!
