When I built my home I put in a nice gas fireplace of excellent quality. Not wanting the typical marble surround, the builder mad one of marble and pine to match my floors. I noticed that when I would burn the fireplace for long periods of time the piece of pine on the facing would leak sap. I was terrified of a fire and it just looked terrible. Fireplace Hearth and Home came right out and inspected the fireplace for any dangers. While they did find the installation sound, they did not like that sappy board. They explained that pine is too sappy to be that close to fire and I should replace it with a harder wood. They found a nice piece of oak that meshed with my fireplace and installed it and stained it. They did such a beautiful job that noone can see the difference in the wood. I am so pleased with their service that I call them every year for a fireplace inspection and any needed service!

When I first moved into my home I found the locks inadequate at best! I had glass sidelights that would certainly look tempting to a thief and a side door with too much window and not enough lock. I found Jantzen lock from my neighbor and they came in and changed all my locks to Schlages with keys so that even if you broke the decorative windows, you can't open the locks. AS a woman living alone, this has made me feel very safe in my home. I like how this company recognized my needs and took care of my fears. I also like that I now feel safe in my home! This was a wonderful experience!

It seems that the builder who built my home was big on closets! The sad part is he wasn't careful about the shelving he used. One evening I heard a thud and it was my Master bedroom closet all over the floor. I could have cried! My neighbor recommended I call Carolina Shelving as they are known to be affordable. The call was very pleasant as the installer looked at my shelving and said that it was good material, but not installed properly. He recommended a few more shelves, but in essence he reinstalled my original shelving properly. I was very pleased with his work and the proof comes in that my closet has not fallen down again. Eventually I am planning on doing some built in shelving and I will be calling Carolina Shelving to do it!

When I first purchased my Carolina cottage style home the last thing I wanted was gutters marring my architectural masterpiece! I then found that when it rained it leaked under my garage door. I called Carolina Gutter because they had such a good reputation and were located in my neighborhood. They surveyed my home carefully and came up with a lay out for gutters and down spouts that is not only unobtrusive, but also stopped the water leakage. They are very friendly and helpful and often stop by in the fall to check the gutters for excessive leaves. It is this attention to detail and customer service that will keep me their patron for years to come!

When I first moved to South Carolina from Florida I knew little about the native foliage of South Carolina. I truly wanted my own gardens to be indicative of the local foliage. But first I needed to learn exactly what that constituted and how to care for it. I took a garden tour at Middleton Place and the guide taught us all about Magnolias, azaleas and day lilies. I learned what to plant in a shady garden and how best to water and when to fertilize. I was also able to puchase several excellent books about gardening in South Carolina! Middleton place is an excellent place to learn about gardening, but it is also a thriving Plantation, Inn and Eatery that truly shows you the South Carolina that was in years past!

When I first became a home improvement junkie I decided that I needed a very fancy Lawn Mower. Big mistake! I was very inept with the mower and nearly butchered my garden in the process of using this hulk of a machine. Enter Cravens! Cravens came out to my house and inspected the mower and made some adjustments. They sharpened the blade that I had dulled. They were then nice enough to teach me how to use the machine and even mowed and edged my lawn to show me how to use the machine properly. This house call was relatively inexpensive and I now only take my mower to Cravens for its yearly service. This is a wonderful small business who knows how to make a customer!
