We had a leaky roof in the vicinity of a chimney and had asked Craftsman to assess & repair as required. At their recommendation, we replaced all the shingles on the roof even though the shingles still looked to be in good shape (their words, not mine). The roof still leaks, and it turns out the chimney is the culprit and not the roof. Craftsman misdiagnosed this and sold me a new roof in the process, but did not solve the problem. We now are getting the chimney removed (separate contractor) and Craftsman wants to charge us to patch the roof where the chimney was. They were hired initially to fix the leak and didn't do it correctly. Now to do the final patching on the roof after the chimney removal, they want to charge some more -- after they sold a roof to us that didn't require replacement yet. At the time the roof was done, we gave them additional business in the form of aluminum fascia/soffits, but in return for the goodwill, they won't own up to the fact that the roof leak was misdiagnosed. Buyer beware !!!!

Company Response

In response to your review... we provided you a roof quote as per your request. The rear slope of your roof was extremely deteriorated, and the front was not quite as bad. However you certainly were in need of a new roof. You hired us to install the new roof, which we did, and the new roof was installed professionally and does not leak...you have absolutely no cause to complain about the roof. We did not know that the brick work on your chimney was causing this leak- as it very well could have been from the deteriorated shingles. We would not have suggested to you to replace your roof to stop a leak if we knew the leak was coming from the chimney.
When you called to say that your new roof was leaking, I, the owner, personally came out during a rainstorm and traced the leak to the stone facing on the chimney. We responded promptly and professionally. You should be upset with the company that did your stone facing on the chimney- not with us. Now you have had your leaking chimney removed, and the roof needed patching. This was an entirely new job which we gave you a fair and reasonable quote for. We cannot do free jobs, even for previous customers, even when they threaten to give us an unjustified bad review if we don't. We respectfully request that Home Stars removes this review due to it being prejudiced and unwarranted. As for your final statement of buyer beware...in this matter it is a case of Contractor Beware!
