Ivy Nursery is definitely THE place to go for a wide variety of plants and trees. They have perhaps the most extensive selection of garden items around Charlottesville and everything is SO well maintained. While they don't use organic methods (bummer), everything we've gotten from them has lasted a long time and been easy to plant and keep up.

We really enjoy Snow's Garden center for their plant and tree selection. They have a wide variety of items, and everything they have is in great shape. Their staff, overall, is really educated about plants. That said, we ordered mulch there once and ended up with topsoil. It seems there may have been a language barrier, but that was rather disappointing. The good news is that we paid for mulch and the topsoil was actually more expensive. :)

Elzroth is a great garden center for general gardening needs. We go there frequently when we're looking for popular landscaping plants and bushes (like daylillies, petunias, pansies, roses, etc). While they don't have a large selection of exotic things, the things they do have are always in great condition. It's also a bummer that they don't use organic methods to grow their plants, but they do have good items.

We contract regularly with MM to get gravel for our driveway and they're always great! We have a very steep driveway and they are always very good at coming up the hill without destroying our road or causing any damage at all. The delivery drivers are always extremely courteous, polite, and on time. They're a great quarry!

We ordered topsoil and compost for our garden from Southern States not long ago, and they were fantastic! They deliver for a very low fee ($25-- well worth it not to have to shovel the dirt out of a truck yourself!!!) and dump wherever you'd like. The guy who came out was wonderful about asking where exactly we would like the soil, and he was very careful about not backing over any landscaping, etc.
