I had Canadian Choice Windows & Doors in Edmonton to replace both front and back exterior doors. Signed contract in July, was told will install in 4 to 5 weeks. Didn't hear from the company for over 2 months, so decided to call them up end of September to find out, was told they will do it in Mid-October. Install date came around, installer showed up on time and done the job in one day. However, there were some issues that needed to be addressed. Contacted the company a few times, guess they were busy, took them a while to respond. Eventually the issues were addressed. Now everything is all good. Wish the company has better communication and be more responsive in the future, other than that, we are satisfied.

Needed to redo roofs on house and garage because of ice damming. Got 4 quotes, not the cheapest, but reasonable. Some companies just left the quotes in mail box, Ryan came and meet me to do the estimate, brought samples, spent time to explain the materials, accessories and procedures. Most of the companies offer 40 inch ice and water shield, they offer 60 inch. Gave me the quote on the spot. But they were busy, and I had to wait and chase them a bit, no big deal. Kept me updated on install date along the way, On install day, they came as they promised they would. Courteous, clean and put plywood on lawn before backing trailer onto it. I upgraded a couple vents for a slight up-charge, but didn't get charge for them. Over all very good experience, and will recommend to friends and relatives.

Sewer backed up, called Rick, he was busy but returned call right away. Booked appointment for the next morning. Ran a little bit late, but got there. Snaked the line a couple of time, it started draining, but not very smooth, something else was going on. For a small extra charge, he sent a camera down the line, Voila, there was a face cloth lodged inside the pipe, Someone accidentally flush it down the toilet. Not easy to retrieve or push out. He spent time and worked at it, and finally retrieved the face cloth. the line flows freely now. I had some other plumber snake the line before a while back, managed to clear it enough to drain, but never flow smoothly, and then would back up again. This time with Rick, I know the line is clear for sure, and also found out the condition of the line. The possibility of tree roots or collapsed line always cause me concern. Total time spent to find and get the face cloth out 3 hours. It cost me, but I'm happy to pay for a job well done. He was polite and patient, explained the steps and situation, reasonable rate. I won't hesitate to call him again if I run into other plumbing issues in the future.

Company Response

Not usually difficult to remove, but this one did its best to elude us. I was surprised that someone else had told this customer they had a tree root problem when there were no tree roots recovered on the cable, and of course the video inspection and confirmation showed the line did not have tree roots anywhere. I am glad we were able to resolve this problem and give this customer some confirmed information about what was going on rather than guessing like some other service people seem to do.

Did my cracked basement wall, at that time it was given a 15 years warranty. It started leaking at the same place again after 7 years, have a difficult time getting them to come by and check it out. When they did show up, they blame it on some thing else, in another word warranty not honoured. Additional info after the company responsed. I had another different house done by this company more than 10 years ago, that I still own. The repair failed I believe after 3 years, I reported it. A person came within 3 days, checked and tested the location with running water from a garden hose, confirmed and came back to fix it all in one week, still holding after all these years. I was impressed, that's why I went to them again for the next house and also recommended them to a couple of my friends. This time, I waited over 2 weeks for an inspection appointment, then got cancelled and set up another appointment a week later. They came by this time, looked at it, went to the basement and pointed to something else and said that's the cause and suggested to me, myself, to jack hammer the basement. No test to confirm, nothing. I guess the company I dealt with before may be changed hand and not the same company anymore. I found someone else, fixed the problem in less than 3 days. And after this summer's terrible hail and rain storms with a lot of basements flooded, mine is still holding fine. No thanks to this company, not recommended.

Company Response

Review of this client's file indicates that we did repair a crack on their foundation, that 7 years later they did have water in their basement and that we attended their home to investigate within 72 hours of their call. The client was shown what the problem was and what was required to remedy it. The problem 7 years later had nothing to do with the original repair. Home owners need to maintain their home. Checking and servicing backwater valves, maintaining grading and keeping eve downspouts functional are a critical part of on-going yearly maintenance and flood-proofing on any home. We are happy to provide advice to any homeowner, past client or not. Please feel free to contact us through our web-site www.abarent.net.
