I knew what I wanted and I tried to find it in the big box hardware stores. I found some products that I liked but nothing I was thrilled with. Then I found The Sliding Door Company. When I visited the show room I was blown away by the options, styles, glass types, and service. I was able to explain what I was looking for and they were able to customize a 3 door set sliding glass doors to replace the terrible sliders that were in my condo when I purchased. They sent someone out to take all the measurements and to update the quote I received. The wait to get my doors was long (explained up front, but I was very anxious to get them!) but when they arrived they were just what I wanted. I was a little less impressed with the installers (hence the 9 out of 10). I found they were sloppy and didn't complete the install job the way I had expected, including a track that still doesn't sit right. BUT. I love my doors. They make a world of difference and I am really glad that I found this company. I would recommend them to anyone looking for custom doors with the caveat to be on hand when the installation is happening so there are no surprise!

After requesting quotes from several movers I remembered that for years I have driven by the Polanski Moving truck parked on the South Kingsway. I contacted them for a quote which I received promptly. They delivered moving supplies to my house so that I could prepare my belongings. On moving day I had two pick up locations. They showed up on time and were incredibly efficient at removing my items from my old condo, including a VERY LARGE piece of furniture that I did not think would ever get out the door. My condo was empty in under 30 minutes. The second stop was a storage unit that was emptied out in 15 minutes. They were so fast but also took great care to make sure my items arrived safely at my new condo. All on my contents were deposited in my new place in under an hour. The guys that moved me were polite, professional, delicate and caring. I have and will continue to recommend this company to friends and family. A great local company that I am very happy to support!

I was planning to redo my kitchen using Ikea, but I received a recommendation from Bloor Dovercourt Appliances to try our Downtown Lumber. Boy were they right! From the start, Tatjana, the in house kitchen designer was great. She helped me every step of the way, from selecting cabinets and accessories to maximizing the space in my little galley kitchen. She was very knowledgeable and incredibly helpful, guiding me, a first time homebuyer through the entire process. I am extremely satisfied with the design, the product and the work that was done by the installers. Pricing was in line with Ikea, but the service here FAR exceeded what Ikea was able to offer. I love my new kitchen and I have Tatjana and her team to thank for that. I great experience - I have already recommended them to several friends who are looking to reno kitchens and bathrooms in the near future.

I hired this company to connect the plumbing in my kitchen following a complete reno. I had shut the water down when the kitchen was gutted. The job was to hook up the washer, dryer, faucet, sink and dishwasher - which they did. What they failed to tell me was the shut off valves were highly corroded and needed to be replaced. Oscar advised that he figured if I had wanted them to be replaced, I would have asked for it. I then went away on a 10 day vacation and returned home to find a leak in the valve had developed which flooded and destroyed one of the cabinets, leaked into my front hall closet and caused my hardwood floor to pop. He refused to accept responsibility for failing to advise me that a $10 part needed to be replaced which I would have gladly paid for (including labour). Instead he blamed me for not asking to replace something. I am not a plumber and I expect when hiring a tradesperson they should advise me on the work that needs to be done to complete a job properly. I feel they were negligent in not advising me that there was a problem. Oscar promised to help with the costs of the subsequent repairs, yet when I contacted him with the repair figures, we would not pick up, or return my calls.

I recently purchased a condo in downtown Toronto. I had planned to renovate the kitchen and when I started the demo I discovered that there once had been a handy (or not so handy!) man that lived here. I pulled out the exhaust hood in the kitchen and discovered that it was plugged into a power bar that was hidden inside the duct work. The power bar had the plug cut off the end of it and it was hard wired into a BX cable. My sister recommended this company to me and they were able to send Kevin within a few days. When he arrived, he said this was maybe the second worst wiring he had ever seen...not so comforting for a first time homebuyer!! At any rate he found several issues the first day and cut power to make the lines safe. He also disconnected the surround sound stereo that had been installed in the bathroom. On the second day, he came with an assistant and the two of them cleaned just about everything up. They found several extension cords that had been hard wired into the electrical system, some of which had burn marks on them because they were running though a pipe chase. They replaced outlets and hung fixtures and came back for a third visit to hook up my new appliances once they were in place. All in all Kevin was a delight to deal with, he had a great sense of humour and helped to put my mind at ease. I would not hesitate to use this company again and I would totally recommend them to anyone who asks!

I recently purchased a condo in downtown Toronto and the kitchen space is small and required some thoughtful planning. Trying to find condo sized appliances to take a look at was next to impossible, until I found Bloor Dovercourt Appliances. I discovered their website and could not believe how extensive their product lines were. Upon visiting the shop I was blown away by the in store selection of condo size appliances. From the minute I walked in the staff were very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Not only did they guide me through all the options available they also made recommendations of other small businesses that could help with my reno's. Doris was an absolute delight to deal with. I have already recommended this shop to friends how are looking to renovate their houses and condos in the coming months. A total gem. I will not hesitate to recommend and use them in the future.
