Kevin told me that my house was a disaster waiting to happen with a live current running throughout my house even with the main breaker off. I then hired a certified electrician who informs me that is not the case. Therefore not only did Kevin not install a timer or the garage outdoor lights but charged me $120 for one hour . Kevin informed me there is a minimum charge for a job. When I asked how much he charges before the job he emailed to say $65 per hour rate. Makes me wonder the motive. As you continue the review .. the ESA did an unannounced inspection and the house passed with flying colours with no safety code concerns , be warned . So did Kevin offer to come back to start the job at least with the timer and the garage lights knowing the house is and was safe ?

Approximate cost of services:
$120.00

Company Response

Thank you for taking the time to write the review. Customer satisfaction is important for us at Cyrilca Renovations, yet safety is important as well. We are unable to proceed with a work that poses a health hazard or is life-threatening to our employees.

On Friday, October 23, 2020, I arrived at the customer's house to change two outdoor lights, a switch operating those lights, and a second-floor bathroom fan. Replacement fan provided by the customer was too big to fit into the existing enclosure, and the customer refused the idea of clearing attic insulation, opening the ceiling to replace the enclosure as too expensive.

When switching off breakers, the voltage detector was still detecting current at outlets and receptacles. With the master breaker off, plugged-in devices are shut off, yet current was still detected at the switch and the light outlets. The customer was informed that the work can't be done under an electrical load that can not be shut by a master breaker due to the risk of electrocution, and the customer was advised to call her electrical company for advice on fixing the wiring that might be wrong at the panel.
The customer was charged the minimum charge as per the Terms and Conditions of Service available at our web-site: http://cyrilca.com/handyman/terms_of_use.html

The client claims that she "hired a certified electrician" yet she did not respond to requests to provide the name and number for verification of the claim. The malfunction of wiring is reported to the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) of Ontario.
