My experience with Sargeants was initially okay. One of their estimators, Adam, responded to me after I filled out their web contact form, and set up a date for the initial inspection/estimate. I thought it was unfortunate that they charged for an estimate ($166), as it feels kind of predatory and a way to "lock you in" but to their credit that seems to be the norm for most of the bigger roofing companies at this point in time. So he gets me a fancy estimate, with a bunch of good photos and explanation - all good - except the price is $1500 for a small patch job with various fees of dubious necessity. Fees for materials and labour, of course make sense. But there's added fees for the pitch of the roof (mine isn't particularly steep), added fees for second story, added fees to "hoist the materials" up, added fees to clean up after themselves, an "install fee" separate from the "repair fee". Whether this is a fine degree of itemization or a bunch of inflated garbage, either way they're clearly not interested in taking on small jobs and pricing them LIKE small jobs. I emailed Adam (as his email to me said to do if I had any questions) for a re-quote to JUST address the missing shingles and take off all the extras like extending downspouts, addressing vents, etc - so that I could see the price difference. He didn't respond. I waited two days and emailed again. He still hasn't responded. All in all I ended up getting the job done by a different company (who didn't charge for an estimate) for less than a quarter the price Sargeant's quoted. I'm sure regretting that I paid Sargeants for the estimate, since it was apparently totally unnecessary - and even having already paid them they're still unwilling to actually get back to me with a revised quote. Ultimately it seems they're wholly uninterested in helping people with small jobs, so they'll just inflate a small job until it charges out like a big one - I wish they'd told me that before I'd paid for the estimate. Very unimpressed with the pricing (given the size of my job) and the lack of communication / responsiveness, even after I'd shelled out for the initial estimate. Super unprofessional. They MAY be a good choice if you genuinely have a large job for them to tackle. I wouldn't know, and they didn't make a good impression with my small job - so I'll never find out if/when I have a bigger job.

Avoid buying from Brookfield at all costs. My wife and I purchased our first home with Brookfield in July of 2018. As a matter of due dilligence, we asked our sales rep what structures would be built on the empty lot beside our home, and were told matter-of-factly that they would be duplexes complete with two-vehicle garages per unit. This information was used to inform our purchasing decision and was instrumental in our decision to buy. This information, as it turns out, was also entirely false. We were deceived. In reality Brookfield is permitting stacked 4-plexes (so 8 units) with two garage suites per structure (an additional 2 units) - all with a single parking spot per unit. I have gone door to door and discussed the matter with neighbours who state that they were similarly deceived and were also told it would be duplexes with adequate 2-vehicle parking. In a discussion with Brookfield's Sr. VP Of Edmonton Communtities and the Sr. VP of Edmonton Homes, I was informed that the lots were always intended to be Multi-unit Housing, which is housing comprised of 3 or more units. This, by design, excludes the duplexes that we were told would be built. While I appreciate their taking the time to talk with me, ultimately Rich and Wendy handed out a number of hollow sympathies and platitudes, but more or less said that nothing strictly illegal had transpired and thus they were either unwilling or unable to make things right in any way. Brookfield has personally gained by deceiving their customers in order to make sales. At this point, that's simply fact. And while the VP's expressed their regret that this transpired, given that there is no governmental or legal body barring them from continuing these deceptive sales practices, I see no reason to expect things to change for the better. Do not trust Brookfield. Get anything important they may tell you in writing, and have them sign it. If they refuse to do so, assume it's yet another falsehood. These people are the lowest form of greaseball and will, evidently, do whatever is necessary to make the sale - up to and including bold face deceit. This was the single largest betrayal of trust I have ever felt as a consumer, and now represents my single largest regret in life. I would implore anyone and everyone to avoid any dealings with Brookfield whatsoever. One of the biggest expenditures of your life simply isn't worth trusting to Brookfield. They will take advantage of you, and be unwilling to help when things go sideways.
