We recently purchased a home and the inspection confirmed that a number of items would require immediate update. This included our AC, furnace, hot water heater (that were all undersized for the home) and in rough shape. Both fireplaces in the home were out of date and had issues given that we have two little ones at home. We also needed to get bathroom vents installed in our bathrooms.
Given the magnitude of all these projects, I did some research. I wanted to go with one provider who could tackle multiple jobs, project managed together. We also wanted this work done just prior to fully moving in. Not only could Appleby do much of the work, the reviews online were strong.
With other providers, I either received partial quotes or was told contractors were needed / timelines would need to be extended or spread out over the course of weeks. This was not the case with Appleby.
First, my early consultations were with Ryan. After completing an onsite evaluation, was able to provide expert advice on what we actually needed. We also talked about what was "must have" vs. "nice to have" - and I never felt like I was being "sold to".
Together, we helped to prioritize the projects and landed on a final plan. I felt like I was adequately informed of where I may want to invest more into given my future usage patterns (i.e. AC) vs. where we may want something more standard given the infrastructure in our home (i.e., hot water tank vs. tank less). Ryan was professional, experienced and responsive.
On the big day, Stephen (our main contact for the day) and his team showed up on time and ready to go. I can't even begin to describe how impressed we were with the team that showed up that day. I don't even think I could adequately list the names of entire crew (so I won't try) - but they were fantastic. In and out over the course of 8 hours, tackling each and every job on our list.
The team obviously is used to working closely together and managed to efficiently tackle each job. If issues arose, it was helpful to have Stephen as our main point person to share updates and needed information. They were very professional and respected our our personal space while completing their needed tasks.
All our old "junk" equipment was swiftly removed, with the new carefully brought in. No damage to our property and our home was left clean upon departure.
When everything was done, Stephen took the time to walk us through each an every project to help complete any knowledge transfer. He was excellent and was patient with each and every question we had (and assured us we could reach out if we had any additional ones in the future).
Our invoice came back as EXACTLY as quoted. There were no surprises - and in fact, we actually ended up receiving a number of rebates that put us under budget.
Ryan dropped by over the course of the "big day" to make sure everything was going well, but also made sure to check in the days and weeks to follow to make sure everything was working as needed / expected.
Given how hot this summer has been so far, our investment in a well functioning (right sized) HVAC system was worth every penny. I'm happy that we also now have the safety issues with the fireplaces resolved. All of our investments are now fully warrantied and are humming along as I write this review.
We considered this big purchase an investment in our new home and I am glad that we choose to prioritize this type of work. I'm even more glad that we found Appleby who managed to make what could have been a very challenging series of jobs, a seamless and relatively stress free process.
