I selected Ashlar and some other local landscape companies based on Homestars reviews and contacted them for quotes. Daimon responded quickly to my request and came by soon after to review the scope of the project. I was immediately impressed with his easy-going, no-BS approach. The quote he provided was delivered on-time and was around the middle of the pack vs. the others with regards to price. His quote detailed each individual part of the job which made it easy to adjust and remove items based on my budget. He was also very accommodating with revisions/adjustments, often suggesting alternatives I hadn't considered. It quickly became apparent that he has a lot of landscaping experience but also knew how to explain everything in layman's terms. I opted to work with him based on all of this and, once the agreement was made, he provided a date range when he could start work and arrived within that range to begin the project. The team who completed the work was small - just two people (Jamie and Danielle). In spite of that I was very impressed with how quickly they completed everything; to say they were hard workers would be an understatement. Perhaps even more notable than their work ethic was how respectful, approachable and generally affable they were. My grass, driveway and pathways were protected and, aside from some dust, were left as they found them despite continuous traffic from heavy equipment, river rock, aggregate and almost 20 yards of soil. They respected quiet hours in the morning even though they were on-site before 8am, kept music at a good volume and were generally polite. I received no complaints from my neighbours throughout the project duration. One over-and-above was that they actually replaced some of the mulch in my neighbour's garden which bordered the walkway and was disturbed during the job - no one asked them to do that, they just thought it was the right thing to do. The finished product was exactly what I had asked for and looked better than I had imagined. They checked in with me a couple of times to address and correct the few unexpected challenges that came up (e.g. a tree root that required an extension to a mulch bed), so I felt connected to the job the whole way through but didn't feel like I had to keep a close eye on them. I would not hesitate to work with Ashlar again and will recommend them to family and friends in the area without hesitation.
