My wife and I went shopping for a new Granite counter top back in August 2019 and quickly realized the price could vary dramatically from company to company. Based on our budget at the time we ended up going with Kanata Granite to install brand new black pearl counter tops in our kitchen. The owner (Vasile) came across as confident in being able to do a professional job although we were concerned initially due to communication difficulties as English isn't his first language. Nevertheless, we forged ahead and paid half the contract amount to initiate the job. We were pleasantly surprised that the granite was ready to be installed within a week after being measured so that part was good. Vasile sent his installers to our house in mid August and those individuals were polite, professional and easy to deal with. They completed the job within half a day and when finished rubbed sealer over all counter tops instructing us to leave them alone for 24 hours before cleaning with soap and water. We looked everything over but it was hard to see the details given that the sealer was lathered onto the tops in a fashion that made it difficult to properly see details of the granite surface. The next morning I paid the balance owing assuming that if we found any issues Kanata Granite would take care of it as any responsible, reputable and legitimate business owner would do. As it turned out, that was a very misguided assumption. Later in the afternoon we wiped off the excess sealer and cleaned everything only to spot a large area near our sink that had numerous scratches and what appeared to be an attempt to spot polish one of those scratches. Given that the problem area was positioned directly below the kitchen window, the natural light really accentuated the scratches and especially the botched spot polishing job. This might not have been as noticeable on lighter color granite but on the black pearl it definitely stands out. At that point, we weren't too concerned figuring Kanata Granite would simply come in and correct the issues. So over the next few weeks I made repeated attempts to contact Vasile via text, email and phone but did not hear back. Vasile finally contacted us in late September and indicated the original installer would be sent back to our house to inspect the scratches. The installer confirmed the scratches and problem areas and explained that trying to fix them using spot polishing techniques was going to make matters worse and indicated they had talked with Vasile and he came to the same conclusion. They made it clear that Kanata Granite simply did not have the expertise to correct the problem areas on the counter top. Once again we naively assumed that Vasile would now step up to the plate and either hire a company that does have the necessary expertise to fix the problems or reimburse us so we could have it fixed ourselves. Neither of these things transpired. In fact, since the beginning of October we've tried emailing, texting, left numerous phone messages but have received no response whatsoever. Kanata Granite has summarily abandoned us knowing full well our installation has defective areas that need repair. What kind of a business treats their customers like this? Based on our interaction with Kanata Granite we can only advise you to avoid this company at all costs as they appear to have no concept of honesty, integrity, customer service and simply do not stand behind their own work.
