We are applying to the City of Markham for a building permit for garage extension. As there are some trees in the vicinity of the project, the City required us to submit a Tree Assessment and Protection Plan (TAPP), prepared by a certified arborist, before issuing the permit. After contacting several companies, we picked The Urban Forest Co. for the job. It was a good choice. The arborist report, done by Lauren McLaughlin, was professional and of good quality. It was completed in a timely fashion. It was also a pleasure dealing with Lauren, who was responsive to our requests and enquires.

We had all the windows and the patio door, a total of 23 units, of our two-story home installed by Magic Window in July 2015. We are doing the review only now because we wanted to see how they held up after at least two winters. We are very happy to say that we have made a great choice with Magic Window. Before choosing this company, we looked at a number of possibilities. We were impressed by the design and features of Magic Window, which was patiently demonstrated in our home by its project manager Derek Landry. Derek answered all the questions we had. Actually, when Derek gave us the demonstration, it was two year earlier in 2013. As we weren’t quite ready then, we put the project on hold, and Derek wasn’t pushy at all. When we contacted him again in 2015, he cheerfully came back and even honoured the same quote he gave us earlier. We were also very impressed by the proficiency and skills of the installer Nema and his other team members, Novak and Beli. Nema even went out of his way to install the aluminium sidings to the 3 bay windows, so that the windows would match the wall and be well protected. We were particularly happy with Nema’s skillful installation of 3 sets of basement windows, which were very difficult to do due to the small window wells. Overall, it was a job well done from beginning to end. The windows are of great quality. They have withstood the test after almost two years. We liked the innovative design, including the no-cranking mechanism for opening, and the retractable screens. They are very effective in insulation during the winter. Also, they are very effective in noise-proofing, which is important to us as our house is next to a busy road. We would recommend Magic Window to anyone considering to have their windows replaced.

We have been a customer of Capital Services for snow removal for several years. We found the service of Capital to be satisfactory, so much so that we even recommended it to our next-door neighbour. They cleared our driveway after each snowfall proficiently and in a timely fashion. This past winter something unusual happened. We found that the gutter of our garage was damaged, including two dents and a puncture, evidently by Capital’s snow removal machine. We reported the damages to the company and requested them to repair it. They did not dispute the request, and after the snow has thawed, they came and replaced the damaged the gutter much to our satisfaction. We are happy that they corrected the mishaps in a responsible manner. The rating would have been a 10/10 if not for the flaw of damages, which, hopefully, the company will avoid in the future. We would recommend Capital to anyone seeking snow removal services.

As a result the very dry summer this year (2016), our lawn, which was subject to the scorching sun all day long without the benefit of shade, was totally burned and destroyed, with the only thing left being stubborn and disgusting weeds. We thought the only way to restore it would be to completely overhauling and sodding it. We contacted several lawn care companies for a quote, one of which being LawnSavers. Aida of LawnSavers, who responded to my enquiry, suggested that instead of sodding, we should do a “lawn renovation”, which includes a complete lawn revamping and reseeding. We decided to go with this approach. Shortly after our decision to engage LawnSavers, they came to do the work, which included eradicating the weeds and other vegetation, aeration, and power seeding. To our delight, a week or so after, a thick lush green new lawn appeared. Of course, we have done our part by watering diligently as instructed, and the rain helped too. We are happy that we made the right decision, i.e. reseeding instead of sodding. It was much cheaper too. To ascertain that the new lawn will not be destroyed by the harsh weather again, we had sprinklers installed too, by a separate company recommended by LawnSavers too. Overall, we are very pleased with the outcome. We would like to compliment LawnSavers, first for the suggestion, and then for a job well done. Keep up the good work, LawnSavers! Overall, I am really happy with Palmerston garden shed I built from the Summerwood pre-cut kit. It looks great. The result and experience gave me a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Thanks so much Summerwood!

We decided in the Fall of 2012 to add more insulation to the attic of our 45 year old home in Kanata, ON. We invited 3 quotes and finally decided to engage Insultech to do the job. The work was done professionally much to our satisfaction. In January of this year, 2013, there was a freeze-and-thaw cycle. We found that we had a leakage from our roof, leaving water marks on the ceilings and water on the floor. We tried hard to find out the cause and consulted with some experts. It was determined that the leak was a result of ice damming, and not due to roof damages as the roof was overhauled not long ago, and that this ice damming was most likely caused by reduced ventilation resulting from the added insulation. Indeed, the leakage had never happened before we added the insulation. We then contacted Insultech about the problem. The company promptly sent someone to inspect the problem, determined that more rafter baffles needed to be installed to improve the ventilation, and followed up shortly with doing this work. We were pleased that this was done without us having to argue about who’s responsibility it was, and that the company did not charge us for this additional work. Our primary contact at the company, Mathew, was courteous and responsive to our requests , and the people who came to do the work were friendly and worked professionally. It was a pleasant experience to deal with Insultech. Overall, we were very satisfied with and impressed by both the installation and the after-sale services of ths company. We would recommend the company to others without hesitation.

A big part of our house, including the entire 2nd floor and the circular stair case, was carpeted. Since the carpet was rather beat-up after many years of use and abuse, we decided to change it to hardwood, for both durability and aesthetics. Having had some experience in hardwood floor installation, I also decided to take up the challenge ... except for the difficult part the stairway and the hall, both with balusters, which I thought I should leave it to professionals. After consulting with several vendors, I settled on Acadian Flooring, by having them supply all the materials and do the stair/hall installation. Judy, my first and principal contact for the entire project, was friendly and pleasant to deal with. Her advice was sound and useful. The on-site visit for the measurement and estimate was done by the company co-owner shortly after and, contrary to most other companies, was free of charge. The work that followed was efficiently, effectively and professionally executed. Three people were involved. Although not ones with many word, they were down to earth and hard working. They paid attention to details. The balusters, which were not changed, were carefully removed and fit back onto the stairs and the open end of the hall perfectly. The pre-mixed colors of the stairs blend well with the balusters too. The nosing and trimming were well done. I was pleased with the workmanship of the half moon mid-way of the stairs. If any imperfection, they should have left the find coating of polyurethane to the next day rather than towards the end of the day. As the drying time took longer than the 4 hours we were told, we ended up not being able to use the upper floor that night. All in all, I was very satisfied with the work and happy with my choice. I have no hesitation recommending Acadian Flooring to others.

We selected Spring Home for the replacement of our much out-dated – and energy inefficient - furnace and air conditioner after much research, comparison and considerations, and the result did not disappoint us. Cy, who responded to our request for a quote, came promptly to look at what needed to be done and gave us an estimate. He was professional and knowledgeable. He explained things clearly and answered all our questions. Above all, his quote was most attractive, offering quality, reputable brand units at a reasonable price, i.e. best value for money in our view. The system were installed by two, at times three, technicians of his team, whom we found to be experienced and competent. They skilfully installed the unit in a very tight space. To ensure no loss in efficiency through our existing ducts, they replaced the old return air boot with a new one, made to measure at their workshop without delay. Once the installation was done, they made sure that system work properly and explained to us how to use the sophisticated and versatile control unit and gave us some maintenance tips. Overall, we were very satisfied with the company’s service and look forward to their continuing service in the future. We have no hesitation recommending the company to families, friends and others who need HVAC services.

We engaged New Trend Home to inspect a house we conditionally purchased recently in Unionville, Ontario. Mr. Afsheen Eftekhari came punctually on the appointment time to inspect the house. I was with him throughout the process, which took about 2 hours. He meticulously inspected all visible parts of the house, took notes and pictures, and explained to me the areas that required repair or attention, either immediately or in the near future. He focused especially on the security aspects and structural flaws, both of which to me were very important indeed. He offered advice on possible solutions to fix the problem areas, and the implications of not having the problem fixed. This advice was valuable. The inspection was done in the morning and he provided us a comprehensive report complete with photos in the evening of the same day. The report was very useful for our subsequent negotiations with the seller, and contributed to the successful finalization of the deal. Overall we were very satisfied with Mr. Eftehari’s service. He was knowledgeable, experienced, effective and professional.
