In no way should this review be taken as a shill. The following is an accurate account of my experience with Maple Leaf Mold Inc. After being informed by my property manager about reports of mold in a couple of areas of my rental house, I searched for a reliable and reputable mold inspector. I came across Maple Leaf Mold during an internet search and called them. I initially spoke with Robert, who was very helpful in discussing my predicament. We set an appointment to inspect the house. Robert was very prompt and I set about apprising him of my observations as well as the reports from both the property manager and my former tenant. We went through the entire house including the attic and the outside perimeter. Robert is very knowledgeable and more than happy to educate me on the causes of mold and when it becomes an issue. Initially, we identified several major areas of concern and Robert discussed the next step including a rough estimate. He follow-up through an email with a formal inspection report / quote. This was a large task which included mold remediation of the main bathroom, master bedroom, living room, and a portion of the basement cold room and the rec room. The project would be an invasive task in which dry wall, built-in cabinets/closets, and tiling would be removed in order to address the mold. When the drywalls were removed, it was discovered that a serious case of mold infestation throughout the house was in the process. The amount of mold was such that an untrained eye would have presumed the cinder blocks were either painted black or covered in tar paper. What was a planned 2-day project was doubled as not only mold but also infected asbestos-based floor tiling had to be removed. Nonetheless, Robert and his team was able to identify the sources of the mold and rectified it. As I live in Ottawa, and my rental property is in Toronto, I relied heavily on my contractor, whom I've known for over 20 years, to coordinate access to the house for Robert. The following are her observations: Robert and his team's "...absolute professionalism and attention to detail is really good. They were on time; they were tidy; they were respectful of your property; and they left your home really, really clean after such a big job. I found nothing that I would have a ounce of complaint about." I would also add that the team were very considerate of the neighbors and ensured not to be seen with their gas masks so as not to cause concern. In addition to the completion of the task, Robert was also willing to meet with me and my contractor afterwards to identify a mitigation plan going forward. And while the project was quite expensive, mold is something that shouldn't be disregarded.
