I contacted Belyea when our boiler stopped working due to issues stemming from a faulty installation by another company. They took apart the boiler, replaced the motor and pressure gauge, and repaired a pipe leak, Despite costing over $2,000, I was happy to have our hot water back and was satisfied with the work. Until two weeks later, that is, when we noticed a small pool of water forming around the base of the boiler. Belyea came back out and diagnosed that the leak was due to a rupture in the tank itself, which apparently they didn't notice when they originally took the tank apart(!). The good news - the tank leak was covered by a manufacturer's warranty. The bad news - Belyea charged me $2,300 + taxes for the removal and reinstallation, which ended up taking a couple of hours. So in the end, close to $5,000 to replace a tank that was under warranty. They get a 1 instead of a 0 because it was my fault for agreeing to the egregious removal and replacement fee (thinking that it was bigger job than it turned out to be), without doing my due diligence and getting another quote. But in the end, Belyea did not diagnose the leak when taking apart the tank in the first place, which would have avoided those original charges, and they completely overcharged on the removal and replacement. Buyer beware. UPDATE: Belyea had told me someone would contact me the first week of September to discuss the charges. It is Sept. 21, and I'm still waiting for that call.

Company Response

Belyea Bros always quotes a client before repairing or installing any piece of equipment. This is one of those unfortunate circumstances where a major component of Mr. Shawn's special combined heating system broke prior to evident of a tank rupture. It is never our intent to suggest the premature replacement of equipment if it appears that a repair will resolve an issue.

Homeowners should consider that it is always possible to find someone in a truck that will do a repair for less than a full service company. It is the responsiveness, warranty, and knowledgeable support you receive from a company like ours combined with our ability to deploy resources to address an issue that sets us apart from the people who originally installed this system. In this case, an extra team member was even added to the crew to expedite the installation.

We spent a considerable amount of money with Battiston to dig out and renovate our basement, along with some other work when we moved into our current house. Our experience with Battiston was very disappointing. We did change a few things along the way, but the project dragged out months longer than it should have. Communication was poor throughout, and I had to continually follow up with Luciano to get things done. Two years later, we still have a down pipe that was never finished because I gave up after calling so many times. Supervision, quality and attention to detail was also poor, we just discovered that they didn't even caulk around the new basement windows, allowing moisture and cold air to seep in. An interlock job on the driveway was done twice, but still collects large puddles of water. Lots of other examples, and not nearly the level of professionalism I would expect, given the price paid.
