My contracts are based on milestone/progress payments. Therefore, if I was paid money it was because I reached that milestone and completed that phase of the project. Unfortunately, the communication between this client and his other trades (Plumbing/HVAC/Electrical), which were not part of my contract, seriously delaying the project by 6 months. By this time, the client had approached my sub contractor to complete my portion of the contract for less money and decided to end his contract with me. I've learned a lot from this experience and have changed some of the ways I work with my clients.
