10/10

Our 22-year old Lennox mid-efficiency furnace had finally failed after many years of problems and issues with that thing. Ultimately it died due to a very badly cracked heat exchanger, pretty scary. And of course, it failed right at Christmas time. We did some research first and then called three reputable local furnace installers based on reviews, ratings and types of furnaces that they carried. One of these companies was Williams Home Comfort (WHC). We had a pretty good idea on the furnace efficiency type we wanted and the features that we were interested in getting since we wanted to upgrade from the old. Of the three quotes that we received, WHC's quote was somewhere in the middle, but we chose them mainly because of the initial visit to the house and the warranty on their units. Of all the quotes we had, WHC was the only company that actually demonstrated that they knew what they were doing. The tech that showed up took the time to properly look at the existing layout in the basement where the furnace lives, outside where the venting pipes penetrate the basement wall, measured all distances, reviewed the existing supply & return air ducting configuration, took plenty of pictures of the system, sketched out the existing system and offered suggestions pertaining to the actual installation rather than trying to upsell future services and a furnace with more features. Plus, they were able to install the furnace the next day!! I cannot say the same about the other companies. Of the other two companies, one guy actually showed up without anything to take notes on, took no more that 10 minutes and appeared very disinterested in anything. The other guy had an unpalatable level of sarcasm and was mostly interested in specifying a furnace capacity and features that we were not interested in, plus all the wonderful post services that they offer. Neither one had a sniff on anything technical nor demonstrated an understanding of what some of the installation challenges might be. The other two had poor warranties complete with plenty of caveats, do some research on this if you are planning on a new furnace! The WHC technicians that installed the furnace were extremely professional, personable and took great pride in their work. They covered and protected all the floors, extremely pleasant individuals and completed the work without any problems, issues or delays. Since the estimator that prepared the quote initially took the time to review the existing conditions in the basement (vent piping configuration, ducting sizes & configuration, space dimensions, etc.), the technicians that installed the unit arrived with all the proper materials to complete the work without any surprises or problems. In other words, they planned the job before they showed up. The previous venting system from the old furnace and hot water heater was a mess and not sure how it ever passed inspection, they removed everything, reconfigured the piping layout and installed new pipes. Beautiful job! The final project looks fantastic! Everything looks level and plumb, and the furnace is awesome! Next time we, or anyone we know has an HVAC issue, we know who we're calling.
