The owner and operator of Rodrigues Contracting, a general contracting company, walked out on the renovation of our home and is therefore in breach of contract. We have paid him over $20, 000 with $1450 remaining. The remainder of the job includes: -installing glass inserts on the kitchen cabinets -grouting the kitchen backsplash -installing crown moulding in kitchen -installing the dishwasher -clearing debris from the backyard and side of the house -cleaning the basement floors -filling holes and painting casings in the kitchen -touch up paint in the kitchen, powder room and upstairs bathroom -fixing the flooring in the main foyer which was done incorrectly to begin with (estimated cost of this job alone is over $1000) He claims that we owe him $1900 but he cannot account for what the extra $450 is based on. We have extremely precise records of all payment transactions that occured and bank records to back these up.He wanted to be paid the rest of the amount owing to him before the job was even completed. We were not agreeable to this idea, as the botched floors have been a contentious issue and we were afraid that he would walk out on the job, which he ended up doing. It is obvious that we have over-pain him so he feels that he can walk out on the job because it is not worth his time, nor the aggravation and cost of fixing our floors.There have also been other contentious issues concerning his work .-putting handles where knobs should be -not consulting us about where to place handles and subsequently placing them in spot that we did not like -stating that he would get rid of the debris on our porch, but not doing so until 2 weeks later when we had to call him -charging us $500 to buil out/up our cabinets when this should have been included in the original estimate -poorly designing our kitchen since there is a cabinet I cannot reach -charging us for quarter rounds because the flooring did not go to the wall forcing us to need quarter rounds
