We were looking for professionals to build our deck, fence, and landscape our yard. Assiniboine had good reviews and seemed reputable, so we had them and a few others come out to quote us. Although Assiniboine was more than the other companies, and were going to take longer to start, we went with them because they could do everything we wanted and seemed professional. This ended up not being the case. To start, Assiniboine subcontracts their jobs, with someone from Assiniboine working as a project manager. Our subcontractors ended up being terrible. They showed up in the afternoon and worked until past 10 pm, even with loud machinery. They were not very friendly when approached about anything. Our sod got delivered on Thursday, but it only got half installed that day. The project manager had called me earlier in the day and said to water it well that night. The contractors were still working and it was approaching 10 PM so we went out to try to water the back yard as they were in the front. They were quite hostile and told us not to as they weren't done and had to finish tomorrow. We watered anyways as per the project managers advice. Friday night comes and they are still working late and the sod still isn't done as they had to redo some things they had messed up on instead of laying the sod. They don't touch our yard at all Saturday and most of Sunday as the subcontractors accepted an under the table job from our neighbor, in which they used product and equipment meant for our house on our neighbors house. This whole time, our sod is sitting unfinished. They finally finished laying down the sod Sunday night, and the pieces they put in looked dead and had to be watered heavily so they didn't fully die or weeds didn't take over. When they were done, they took photos of our yard and went around showing neighbors with unfinished yards the photos trying to get business for their own company. When we contacted Assiniboine about the problems, they didn't really do anything. We were told they dropped them as a subcontractor, and they kind of fixed some of the remaining issues, but I don't feel the quality of work on the landscaping side is very good. Outstanding issues are that our mow bricks will probably need to be re-set too as they weren't tamped down well and are shifting a lot. Rock and mulch are only about an inch thick everywhere as they used a bunch on our neighbors yard, so weeds are a major problem. We had large numbers of weeds growing from quite deep in the soil within a week or two of job completion. We contacted Assiniboine again, but they didn't seem keen on doing anything, so we fixed that problem ourselves. We also had dead patches of grass, or poorly placed sod sections that started growing weeds before grass, which we fixed ourselves as well. EDIT - After seeing this review we were contacted by Assiniboine to remedy the situation. They kept their word and fixed all outstanding issues we had remaining.
