Holley’s electricians come replace bend electrical mast. Come on time, were polite and keep job side clean and organized. All seemed fine until I found that they live power line was being tied up to hose chimney. My concern was being dismissed. This power line was hanging from this chimney for the time big of power disconnection required for this mast to be changed. Over 100 feet long, heavy hydro line was exposed to gravity, was pulling on this chimney. Was pulling away from house and this connection was not being secured in any other was - it was unbalanced. Some time later I found my chimney detached. Contacted company but was told to prove that it was their fault. At Small Claims Court I used Newton law of physics( law of mechanics) to support thesis that this chimney had no other options but to move in direction of that pulling. When object is exposed to pulling forces which are not balanced that wii causes this object to move in direction of this force. Unable to undermine this fact Holley’s electrician who tied up this live power line to chimney choose to tell untrue as his way out. He stated in Court, under Oath, that it was Hydro One crew who asked him as he happened to be on the roof. FYI: Hydro One Crew consist of 2 electricians and very capable of disconnecting this power line form Service drop. Holley’s electrician Mr. Popiel made up also story about how Hydro was disconnecting this servise from ladder although it was plenty safe space on roof for this act. In his story another Hydro Crew member from Truck 89 was doing nothing. Fact was that this live power line was being tied up to chimney by Holley’s electrician before Hydro arrival. What was also very wrong was fact that Hydro did not correct existing situation! Line was not de energized so couldn’t be dropped on ground. Code is asking for temporary support structure if power line is being disconnected. Out of laziness, lack of knowledge or whatever reasons were behind this electrician’s decisions my household is damaged and this damage is estimated in thousands for repair. I was being mislead about fact that Insector will be presented on the job. Invoice from company is containing charges for something that is not even allowed by this contractor to do ( change of electrical meter). No master electrician was being assigned to job as by regulations to oversee it ether ( another Code requirements) Do not count that ESA will help you as customer as governing body for licensed electrical contractor or as one who supposed to ensure that licensed electricians are performing their duties up to license requirements and as up Electrical and Safety Code regulations because in accordance to ESA ther is NOTHING WRONG with such. Be worn. Educate yourself, keep very close eye on the job at all time and do not hesitate to stop it if any questionable actions are presented. I didn’t know at the time. By the way Holley’s electrician stated that using parts of household for their job is quite common practice and this was not first time when chimney was being used. BE VERY CAREFUL! INSIST on ESA INSPECTION durin work. Some contractors are (to save their money) are part of program which allows them to perform jobs without inspection! I wish that this was some fictional story from movie or book but unfortunately this happened to in reality. Be aware. Unfortunately houndred other jobs do not guarantee that next one will be safe! very sad but also very true. Have someone with you who can be witness and take pictures/ record.
