Refinishing floors

Two months and still not completed. Sanding and refinishing of living room, dining room, hall and kitchen. Numerous weeks between first and second coat. Said that he could not get in touch with his staff for a number of weeks and that he did not even know where they were or how else to try to get in touch with them. Left footprints that assured would be fixed.. still not three weeks later. Numerous calls not responded to appointments not kept with no notice. Sever damage to quarter round. ( I asked if it had to be removed and was told no.. they would easily work around) For a small repair I asked if I should pick up the materials and was again told that they could easily get... they arrived with no materials and then came back with pre finished and explained that once the finish was sanded off it would look great. It is not the same type of oak and definitely looks quite different. As they had to sand off the finish it is a slight bit lower than the rest of the floor and a bit noticeable. Continuously states that all will be looked after and nothing happens. Stated that staff got lost and could not find.. we are two ninety degree turns from anyone going north on 404 400 Bayview, Leslie etc etc. Does not know his staff and how to contact. Selected based on the reviews and checked with the reference.. a contractor that I was told they did work for. If had not had to have everything out of our living room, dining room hall and kitchen for the last two months would have rated higher.. but the aggravation and inconvenience factor far outweighs. Regretfully paid the entire amount and should have held back some until second coat applied and job finished. Update.... May 5, 2012 now three weeks have gone by from when they "promised that they would call back and make it right" and nothing. Only calls received were at 1 am... explained that it must have been his new phone that dialed...and one afternoon that when I picked up nothing but voices in the and after a couple of minutes they picked up the phone to dial out and I was on. Embarrassed and said again that they would call back for sure. Nothing, nothing, nothing... I guess I have to write this off to an incredibly bad decision and question some of the other reviews as being legit. I cannot believe that this turned into such a pain and inconvenience and disappointment. If you are even thinking of using do your homework and due diligence and check with a couple of the individuals that have left reviews showing definite concerns.

Floor Refinishing

I just moved into a condo and unfortunately the engineered bamboo floors have alot of scratches from the previous owners pets. So I found Craftwood Flooring on the internet and gave them a call. I did some research on the internet and found that it is tough to refinish engineered bamboo, however if the contractor is skilled enough, they can do it. I called several times to try to get Scott to look at my floor before proceeding with the refinish. He kept saying that he was super busy with his other clients and that I don't need to worry. He said that he has been doing this for over 20 years and guaranteed that he would be able to refinish engineered bamboo without a problem. I also told him that there would not be any room for error as I had to move in about 3 days after the floor refinishing. Again he said he's able to do it 100%.

So I believed him and we proceeded with the work. He sent in 3 guys and the first odd thing was that one of the guys said he wouldn't recommend sanding the floor and refinishing. I asked him why? Scott told me it was doable. He said buffing should be sufficient and it looks better than sanding. Also he said there's a risk that they may sand down to the particle board portion of the flooring. I trusted him since he supposedly should be the expert. So we proceeded with the work.

The next odd thing is that it only took them about 1.5 hours to do the whole job. Unfortunately I was naive, and paid them the full amount without confirming the quality of work, since I couldn't step on the floor for the next 2-3 days, to let the polyeurothene dry. When I came back to move I found that all the scratches were still there and unfortunately I couldn't call Scott to fix it right away because I was busy moving the furniture in.

So I called Scott a couple days later saying how bad the workmanship was and that his worker didn't want to sand the floor. Scott then told me okay, he'll come and sand the floor and fix it. I told him that I stated in the begining that we were on a tight schedule and what does he want me to do? Move all the furniture away?? So I asked him to look at how bad the refinishing was and to give me a refund to be fair. Scott agreed to refund 1/2 the amount ($350) and we made an appointment for Tuesday Feb 14.

On Feb 14, I waited all day and got no response from Scott. Afterwards I called him and he said he forgot about the appointment and that it was Valentines. Okay so I let it go the first time. We rescheduled for him to come at 10am Sunday Feb 19. Again he did not show up! I called him 20 times and he made some lame excuses telling me how something came up and he couldn't show up.

He then told me some stories saying how business was slow so that's why he couldn't get the money for the refund. But how can business be slow when you were telling me busy you were for work?? In addition he told me that not a single cent went to him on the job. Again I told him, how the hell is that possible?? It's your responsible to collect money from your workers!! So after much arguing, he bargained with how much refund he would give back. I finally succumbed to $250. This time he promised to pay me on Saturday March 3 at 10am.

Again he did not show up! And with no phone call even after I left him a message on Friday! Now I was really furious. I told him I was going to post my story all over the home renovation sites and file a complaint to Better Business Bureau. He said that he would give me the refund this upcoming Wednesday Mar 7. However I said he bailed out 3 times so I wanted it that day! Otherwise I will take action.

After that he told me to take a hike and basically thought I was bluffing.

I've also attached links below to pictures showing how bad the workmanship was.

In conclusion, do not trust Craftwood Flooring and the quality of their workmanship!

If anyone has any questions, feel free to send me a message.

Refinishing hardwood floors

I had pre booked Craftwood to do my floors in a very small window of time between possession of a new house and moving day from the old house. Although they ran into a glitch - they lost a crew and didn't think they were able to do the job - after pressing for a solution, they were able to work it out and have a crew to the house much later in the day in order to get the floors done on schedule.

After all was said and done - the floors look great and the cost was reasonable.

Sanding and staining of existing hardwood floors

I learned about Craftwood flooring from the floorrefinishing.ca website. In mid July 2011, Scott visited my home to give me an estimate/proposal of the cost for sanding and staining my strip oak hardwood floors for three bedrooms and a parkay floor in the family/living room of my home. The bedroom floors are original 1950 floors, but the parkay is from the 80's. His estimate/proposal for the work was very competitive and the reviews on this site were mostly positive, so I decided to take a chance and award the job to him. In August, on the scheduled date, a three member crew arrived and spent the first full day sanding, the second day they applied the color and the first coat of urethane and on the third consecutive day, the second coat of urethane. I was very impressed with the work ethic of the crew. They were on task and displayed close attention to detail. I was particularly impressed with the shopvac used to pick up debris and dust. It was worn on the back of one of the crew members. I'm very happy with the look of the floors. My wife and I chose English Chestnut as the stain color and a satin finish. The satin finish really brings out the intricacies of the wood and the overall look is stunning. Thanks Scott for bringing our floors back to life. I have no reservations about referring this company to anyone looking to have their floors sanded and stained.

New Hardwood

Scott is really just an overall great guy, so we felt comfortable having he and his team in our house. They were a pleasure to deal with, and the results were fantastic. The work was fantastic and we get compliments on our flooring still. The work was done on time, we were communicated with throughout the process and they helped us pick the perfect stain that to this day, we love.

sanded and sealed elderly wood floors

Our hardwood floors had been refinished many times over the years, but we didn't want to pay for replacement before selling the house.

Scott's crew did a great job of sanding and sealing the floors so they shined.

Easy to deal with, came when they said they would - both to measure AND do the work.

I got several quotes and found them to be competitive, plus willing to do work others were unwilling to do.

What could this company do to improve their services?
Would have appreciated a bit more post-project cleanup, or a warning that sawdust and cans were going to be left behind.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
It takes time for floors to get sanded and resealed - do expect to get back in the same say the work is done.

entire first floor of our home

I was stranded after our floor contracter disapeared 3 weeks before Christmas, our Kitchen was not installed as of yet for we where told it would be better for the floor refinishers to work without baseboard trims and cabinets in the way for a great looking floor. My floor was a mismatch of different colours of hard wood floor so I began to panic. I called around and no one was able to help me except Craftwood Floors. I talked to Scott on Sat Nov 27 and he said he would try for guys on Sunday the 28 2010, I thought for sure this guy was kidding me but I took a chance and behold a crew of 2 showed up the next day and did an amazing job. Thanks Scott and Craftwood flooring you guys really saved Christmas for me and I would recommend you and your staff to anyone that is interested

sand and refinish wood floor

I was directed to this company by Homepro. Scott returned my call and had the work done within a week. I had a tight timeline since there were only a few days to do the work before my move in date. Ton and his team arrived on time and finished on time. I mentioned to Ton that I was concerned about the existing ripples left by the last sanding. When the team was finished, there were no ripples anymore and the colour was just as I had hoped. I had to ask Scott if they had really used a big drum sander, it looked like it was all done with the smaller hand machines.

Ton had done such a good job removing the quarter round and then re-attaching it, I didn't think he had removed it and didn't pay for that part of the job. Scott called me back, and asked me to look more closely - Ton had carefully caulked it along the top and when I got down on the floor to look more closely, I discovered that the quarter round had indeed been removed as I requested. I couldn't tell visually - I had to feel the fresh caulking with my fingernail. I gladly paid the amount due for a job well done.

Sanding, refinish hardwood flooring

I purchased a house in EY in March. Required to have old flooring refinished and stained. Crew did the job in 2 days, and was told I needed one day for drying. All in all, his crew did a great job.
My only gripe is that due to scheduling conflicts I did not recieve my house keys back for a few days.
I also wish I could have met Scott personally before his crew started my job and also afterwards to thank him personally.
