Floor Refinishing

I just moved into a condo and unfortunately the engineered bamboo floors have alot of scratches from the previous owners pets. So I found Craftwood Flooring on the internet and gave them a call. I did some research on the internet and found that it is tough to refinish engineered bamboo, however if the contractor is skilled enough, they can do it. I called several times to try to get Scott to look at my floor before proceeding with the refinish. He kept saying that he was super busy with his other clients and that I don't need to worry. He said that he has been doing this for over 20 years and guaranteed that he would be able to refinish engineered bamboo without a problem. I also told him that there would not be any room for error as I had to move in about 3 days after the floor refinishing. Again he said he's able to do it 100%.

So I believed him and we proceeded with the work. He sent in 3 guys and the first odd thing was that one of the guys said he wouldn't recommend sanding the floor and refinishing. I asked him why? Scott told me it was doable. He said buffing should be sufficient and it looks better than sanding. Also he said there's a risk that they may sand down to the particle board portion of the flooring. I trusted him since he supposedly should be the expert. So we proceeded with the work.

The next odd thing is that it only took them about 1.5 hours to do the whole job. Unfortunately I was naive, and paid them the full amount without confirming the quality of work, since I couldn't step on the floor for the next 2-3 days, to let the polyeurothene dry. When I came back to move I found that all the scratches were still there and unfortunately I couldn't call Scott to fix it right away because I was busy moving the furniture in.

So I called Scott a couple days later saying how bad the workmanship was and that his worker didn't want to sand the floor. Scott then told me okay, he'll come and sand the floor and fix it. I told him that I stated in the begining that we were on a tight schedule and what does he want me to do? Move all the furniture away?? So I asked him to look at how bad the refinishing was and to give me a refund to be fair. Scott agreed to refund 1/2 the amount ($350) and we made an appointment for Tuesday Feb 14.

On Feb 14, I waited all day and got no response from Scott. Afterwards I called him and he said he forgot about the appointment and that it was Valentines. Okay so I let it go the first time. We rescheduled for him to come at 10am Sunday Feb 19. Again he did not show up! I called him 20 times and he made some lame excuses telling me how something came up and he couldn't show up.

He then told me some stories saying how business was slow so that's why he couldn't get the money for the refund. But how can business be slow when you were telling me busy you were for work?? In addition he told me that not a single cent went to him on the job. Again I told him, how the hell is that possible?? It's your responsible to collect money from your workers!! So after much arguing, he bargained with how much refund he would give back. I finally succumbed to $250. This time he promised to pay me on Saturday March 3 at 10am.

Again he did not show up! And with no phone call even after I left him a message on Friday! Now I was really furious. I told him I was going to post my story all over the home renovation sites and file a complaint to Better Business Bureau. He said that he would give me the refund this upcoming Wednesday Mar 7. However I said he bailed out 3 times so I wanted it that day! Otherwise I will take action.

After that he told me to take a hike and basically thought I was bluffing.

I've also attached links below to pictures showing how bad the workmanship was.

In conclusion, do not trust Craftwood Flooring and the quality of their workmanship!
