Wall and ceiling finish plastering

Great plastering and sanding, prompt, professional, tidy, came prepared. Arrived when he promised, finished when he said he would. Perfect!! BUT...
My review would end there if the work ended there. Unfortunately giving everything a coat of primer was part of the scope of work. The “nap” length of the roller used was 1 inch (25mm). This takes the smooth work of the plastering job and completely ruins it.
Every smooth ceiling in my home was painted with a 10mm nap length roller. Every other ceiling in my home looks smooth. The ceiling in question will need to be re-sanded or re-plastered to achieve an acceptable result.
The company owner was unwilling to bring the ceiling up to the requested standard. I won’t get into the details of that discussion but will say that I’m on my own to make this ceiling look as good as all the other, previously stippled ceilings in my home do. I’ll add that they were not done by a professional.

Approximate cost of services:
$2,500.00

Company Response

Hi Ned,

Regarding your review and the phone call we had, you reached out to us for a quotation with an in-depth description of what you wanted done in a room that you had previously started to work in and needed us to finish for you.

You requested that we do some sanding, plastering, priming, and finish paint the ceiling. First day of the job, we did a thorough walk through of what & how you wanted it to be done with no mention of a specific type of paint finish for the ceiling, thus, we proceeded with the method we use for all of our other clients. We continued with all the work and on the final day, we did a full walk through where you were able to check the finished product. You were 100% satisfied with the result and you then paid us the remaining balance we agreed upon.

The work was completed on the 26th of November, 2021 and on the 13th of February, 2022, three months after the day the job was completed, we received a call from you requesting to bring the ceiling to a different standard. In our conversation, you admitted you had painted over our finished product that you had originally signed off on and also admitted that you failed to mention the specific finish that you wanted despite countless opportunities mentioned above, you then requested that we bring the ceiling to your now expected standard and expected us to do it for free of charge.

As a customer you are within your right to request a modification throughout the process of a job or at a later date but you cannot sign off on a finished product and request an alteration to said finished product especially if it has been altered by anyone and expected to be finished in a specific way that was never mentioned when opportunity after opportunity to mention it never arose as mentioned above and expect said modification to be done free of charge.

As a small business owner and any business in general, it cannot operate on a profit if a customer has a right to request any modification for free of charge because they had a change of heart no matter the timeline to which you expected of us, we discussed this all on our phone call that we had on the 13th of February 2022 and stated that this is our reasoning behind the issue as originally discussed.

Sincerely,
Gavin
