Poor Professionalism and Workmanship

We had a terrible experience with Daniel and HC Interiors. Daniel started off as friendly and responsive, however the final work was substandard, rushed and sloppy. He did not take the appropriate time and effort to complete the renovation, and was unprofessional in addressing our concerns. They installed cabinetry, doors and curtain rods without properly measuring and testing them resulting in them not working properly. They blamed us for this by saying that how we instructed them to install it that way. They haphazardly constructed a coat closet, which they later admitted was poorly done. We hired them to repaint the basement, but they did not patch, sand and prepare the walls and baseboards prior to painting. They also did not take the time to protect our floors, remove our hardware or suspend our pot lights prior to painting resulting in our floors/pot lights/light switches/hinges/door knobs being painted on. They argued with us that it was acceptable as is. In tiling our bathroom, the work was uneven and rough. They again argued it was standard quality workmanship and blamed the tiles we chose. Overall, they minimized our concerns, misattributed blame to us and were reluctant to accept responsibility for their poor workmanship. Daniel did admit that aspects of their work was “sloppy” and “rushed.” When we informed him we were retaining the final payment due to incompleteness and poor workmanship, he responded in an unprofessional and intimidating manner toward our family. He made veiled threats that he would “call people” to come to our house to collect the money or remove all his installed materials from inside. He told us he “knew a lot of big people in contracting” and was going to “get his money.”He did not explain exactly what he meant by these statements and we changed our door locks as a precaution. He later told us that he never intended to do so, but said so to be difficult. We have hired another contractor to fix and finish his poor work, costing us more time and money. We don’t wish this experience upon anyone else. Some photos of his final work are attached.
