took deposit and disappeared

BEWARE, Took deposit and disappeared. This company is exactly the company giving this industry a bad reputation. Aggressive and unreliable. I hired Max and his team on behalf of 2 of my clients to install a couple of steel beams. With good intention , we agreed on the price for each of the jobs.
During the first installation he contacted me demanding an additional $1000 to nail the joists hangers to the beam which is an essential part of the installation. I refused to pay more as this but to be fair , I suggested that he would finish anything without nailing the hangers. .
In return , he left all of the windows in the house open in time of a snow storm and left the property. 30 min later, he contacted me and demanded another $1800 to finish the 2nd project. I obviously refused as there was no justification for any additional fees. He then informed me that he keeps the deposit and will not come back .
If you are looking to work with an unprofessional bully, and willing to risk that your deposit will be gone , he is your man, otherwise , find someone else

Approximate cost of services:
$5,500.00

Company Response

Elad is full of it and it is evident based upon his review in his opening statement- “we took a deposit and disappeared, then finished the job and left the windows open”. (Unbelievable people) Anyways after he wrote this false review about us, I wrote a review back of what actually happened through us working together on his page (archimedes group, please take a look). His response to my review is that our companies have never done work together. Elad is a shady general contractor and lacks basic knowledge of residential construction. Elad hired my company to install a beam and to rebuild a 2nd floor. Before we started, he assured us that the site would be clean and ready for us to begin our work. When my crew arrived on site to begin the project, it was horrendous with demolition debris everywhere. As it was unsafe to work in these conditions, I notified Elad to send his labourers to clear the site. He was upset at my request as he doesnt have any labourers and would have to do it himself (probably because he lacks constant work or is too cheap). But nevertheless we kept going and got the 2nd floor built, he came at the end of the day to finish abit of cleaning after my crew had already taken the initiative to clean up the majority of the work area.
As a general contractor, it is imperative to have an understanding of site preparation and to schedule trades in the correct order, which he failed to do so.

When my crew arrived on site to install the steel beam he ordered, we were unable to install it as it was measured incorrectly by Elad (too short). This was very embarrassing on his part, as he had to reorder a new beam and relay the message to the homeowners about the delayed project completion.
After losing a day of work and notifying Elad that our next availability date to install the new beam would be in 2 weeks, he demanded that we come back to install the new beam the following couple of days. We were not able to fulfill his demand as my company had already agreed to complete other projects during that time frame. This made him furious and he stated that he will find someone else to complete the work and will leave us a bad review on google.
