Because of prior unpleasant experiences with incompetent or negligent contractors for various renovation jobs, my wife and I have become very mistrustful of hiring anyone to do a job without extensive research and checking. So when it was time to renovate my staircase, we both did a lot of homework. We ended up with 5 different companies that all sounded/appeared reliable. Some sent a representative to look at the actual staircase, others simply requested photos. They all provided me with a wild range of estimates and timelines. The estimates ranged drastically from $2500 to $7000. Some insisted on replacing everything, others on replacing the ballusters only.
We ultimately hired “Dreamm Flooring” for 3 reasons: Their price was reasonable (neither very high nor very low, but reasonable). The owner Jarek and his associate Martin projected an immediate aura of competence, hard work, and integrity. They suggested there was no reason to replace anything – just a good hole-filling, sanding, painting and staining would be totally adequate. On the agreed-upon date, both Jarek and Martin showed up early in the morning and – for the next week – worked tirelessly about 12 hours daily (with hardly any breaks).
I really appreciated how meticulous and precise they were. All repairs to the wood are perfectly invisible. Every step, every riser, every balluster, and the handrail all look remarkably new. The staining, the painting, everything is spot-on. All painted borders are totally straight. I like the fact that – whenever faced with some “issue” - Jarek and Martin would both seriously debate the various ways of dealing with the issue until they came up with a clever solution. All in all, they did an excellent job. In fact, I am a bit reluctant to post this positive review, because I still have other jobs for them to do around my house, and I’m selfishly afraid of losing them to “the market”, or having them become less accessible to me. To Jarek and Martin, I have this to say: please do not drop your standards ever in the future… and Thank You!
