Flood Restoration Nightmare - Brand New Buidling

Blue Ribbon Group was awarded reconstruction contracts after our brand new condo building suffered a series of floods in October 2016. The guy who runs this company lived in our building and was on our board of directors when they awarded the contract - so draw your own conclusions.

This was an insurance contract in a brand new building, most people haven't even lived hear for one year. Pretty quickly we figured out that something was wrong. Fake parts, materials that did not meet building standards, poor workmanship. Any problems you bring up they just blame the sub-contractor or whoever they hired to do the job, or acted like they have no idea what you are talking about (if you even get a response) but at the end of the day it is the GENERAL CONTRACTOR who is responsible. Impossible to get a straight answer, they just say everything is fine. Many residents had to contact manufacturers themselves, bring in independent contractors to review the work, to prove it had been done incorrectly. Often times Blue Ribbon Group knew about these problems but did not tell all affected residents, but would just say it was an oversight if they missed some as more people figured things out on their own.

Fast forward now 10 months after the floods. Many residents still fighting to have shoddy work redone, some are even looking at having to get lawyers involved to get their units properly restored. Ultimately many could end up paying out of pocket and just hire their own contractor to do the work right as they are exhausted from fighting so long. Our condo board decided not to go with the recommended general contractor so the insurance company says we are on our own.

This was an insurance contract - there is NO reason a general contractor should need to cut costs, but they sure tried and residents are paying for it. These were brand new condos and all people want is to get their units back to how they were purchased. Now we are stuck in a seemingly endless nightmare.

There is definitely a lesson in here about making sure your condo board can't award contracts to other board members but this has been a brutal experience and totally ruined most of a year for people who should have been excited about their brand new condo's. All this on top of the fact the floods happen in the first place.
