Capable Group - Basement Renovation & Finishing Company

We just completed a major renovation with Capable Group and are THRILLED with it. They worked through our vision with us, and made it a reality.
Pricing was fair, and it was a one stop shop. They stand behind their work, which I appreciate tremendously. Between Yan, Ludmila (the designer) and Michael our project manager, we have created a spectacular showpiece. It went from ugly, dark and dangerous, to BEAUTIFUL, bright, airy and completely usable space. You do not feel like you are in a basement anymore. It feels totally like a stunning new condo. From the new entrance and new windows, to the luxury kitchen and bathrooms it’s just magnificent.

We reached out to capable group to finish our basement and add some cabinetry and countertops to our kitchen. Yan and his team were amazing from the word go. They took the time to answer all our questions and helped guide us through everything from blueprinting and layout design to paint color and fixture selection. The end result is exactly what we wanted And matches the original design exactly. Overall we are extremely happy with Capable Group and would highly recommend them to anyone looking to do renovations.

I cannot recommend Capable Group enough. Yan and his project manager, Michael, put the customer first. From the very beginning, Yan presented as professional, attentive to our wishes, and concerned to keep the costs as reasonable as possible. Throughout, the group were immediately responsive to all my needs and my concerns.

They took a very stressful situation - mold and resultant structural damage - and assisted in coming up with a plan of action. It certainly helps that many of the tasks - engineer, plumber, electrician etc. - are all in-house, which allowed me to relax and let them take care of coordinating everything. This also creates a level of comfort and trust knowing that the various aspects of the job are governed by the same care and responsibility exhibited by Yan throughout the project.

Yan presented us with a unique approach, in which an overall quote was provided which included our choice of basic tiles and fixtures. To the extent that we bought our own tiles and fixtures, we were then credited the amount it would have cost us to buy them through Capable. And the credit was eminently reasonable.

They were content to include small extras at no extra cost. Oleg, for example, took it upon himself to take a classic old and rusted bathroom vent (which I had grown attached to) and clean it up like new. It is the small things that count, and the small things you remember.

We have a wonderful bathroom!! And more importantly, I have a happy wife.

We recently hired Capable Basements to finish our basement (our house is a basic suburban semi-detached). We received attentive service, great quality, a headache-free process, and ultimately, excellent value. Here are a few more detail from our project:

1. THE PITCH. When we first met with Yan he assessed our basement needs, laid out our options, and gave us our price. He was fair and direct — at no point did we feel like we were getting a sleazy sales pitch. We had met with a couple of other basement contractors, one of which ended our first meeting with the old “well...if you sign right this very second then the price becomes...” Capable did not do this, and it was what allowed us to choose them with such ease.

2. THE DESIGN. We then met with the designer, Ludmila. She has an effortless calmness that makes you feel comfortable. She was easy to talk to would help us out by pointing out things we may have not thought of. Together, we laid out a plan and chose finishes. She then turned those ideas into a full 3D mock-up, highlighting every detail. We then changed those details 1 million times, and each time she made us feel like it was no inconvenience at all.

3. THE WORK. As with anything, there were blips along the way, but our project manager Michael kept us informed and was always available to field our many curious questions. We had the benefit of being home for bits and pieces of the project, and we were able to personally meet nearly everyone who worked on our basement. Everybody who came through our doors was polite, willingly addressed any and all questions, and worked really damn hard. We could hear Dennis the framer working non-stop all day. Mohammed the painter was friendly and let our kid watch him work. These are good workers, and great people.

4. THE PRICE. Not too high and not too low, Capable was the Goldilocks contractor of the 3 that we met with.

5. THE END. All in all, we are now left with a beautifully finished basement that looks clean and polished. We received exactly what we needed to meet the demands of our little family, and we’ve built a relationship with a company that we’d happily use again or recommend to others.

We hired Cap-Able group after seeing work they done at a friends house. We first finished our basement and then had hardwood installed on the main and second floors. Yan, Mike and their team were excellent. Right from the start we kept up to date with the status of the project, they were very clean and professional. The attention to detail on all the finishing was excellent. I would highly recommend Cap-Able to family and friends and in fact already have.
