Pegasus Underpinning And Renovations

We underwent a large renovation project and Pegasus was brought in for excavation, underpinning and radiant floor install. Anyone who has ever done a renovation knows they are never straight forward. Cliff was a partner in the process, solution focused, always available and accessible. He was transparent at every step and allowed any changes in scope to be determined based on time and cost. We are close to 2 years since completion and Cliff always picks up my calls when I need his advice and stands firmly behind the work he and his team did. Underpinning is not an easy undertaking and you want someone with confidence, accountability and pride in their work. I would highly recommend Cliff and his team and would gladly bring them on to any future projects we take on.

I interviewed several contractors for this work, and decided to work with Cliff given that he clearly knows what hes doing, which is particularly important for underpinning. Ben, who is leading the project team, has a great crew. We plan on continuing to work with Pegasus on the next phase of construction (beams, cut-outs, excavation and footings for a new side addition). Most importantly, I can trust in the Pegasus team, which is so important when undertaking these kinds of projects.

Cliff and his team excavated and underpinned the basement of our 100+ year Toronto home. They basically created a basement out of nothing so we could expand the square footage of our small home.

There were many obstacles to this project from the start: the pandemic led labour shortage, unforeseen surprises with a house this old (pre-existing wall and chimney that needed to removed, compromised foundation, etc.), weather conditions, a tree that needed to be removed, bureaucratic obstacles created by a new, inexperienced city inspector, etc. Despite these delays, Cliff and his team completed the project with exceptional workmanship and professionalism.

Cliff, along with our engineer, made sure that no corners were ever cut and that the project was completed to the highest standards. We kept adding to the scope of the project (e.g. a walkout, heated floors, underpinning the existing small basement) and Cliff managed to complete all of these new requests despite his full schedule and other commitments.

Throughout this process, Cliff was transparent and honest. We never incurred unexpected costs that were never disclosed or any of the other unfortunate surprises that others we know have experienced with other companies.

It was not a quick and easy project, however, and there are still a few more items to complete before we can finish the basement and restore the landscaping, but these delays are understandably due to the unusual times we are living in and the non-standard nature of the house itself.

I would absolutely recommend Pegasus to friends and family. In fact, our neighbours are currently waiting for the completion of our basement to begin thinking about their own!

I would like to add that throughout this project, every member of Cliffs team was so polite and professional, that many of our neighbours made sure to let us know how wonderful they were. They helped clear the path and dig cars out after the devastating snow storm we had in the winter, for example, and always left the site clean and tidy.

Clifford and his team were exceptional in all aspects of this job. Pegasus underpinned our bungalow and front porch to the agreed height, and took care of all aspects of the job including inspections! His crew was here every morning on time and worked through the majority of the holiday season! Questions were always answered and problems, if any, worked through, not always easy when there is a family living above the work happening below. Were very happy with the end results!!

Clifford and his team were just what I was looking for. I kept hearing that you shouldn't trust just anyone with underpinning - - it's just too important and the company you work with needs to have true expertise in this particular field. For this reason I did a lot of research before settling on any one company for the job. Clifford was responsive from the beginning and I appreciated how quickly he was able to get me a quote. The price was competitive but the professionalism is what stood out the most. He displayed an openness that was reassuring and didn't hesitate to point out some important aspects about how he approached the work (from insurance to technique) that I could easily compare to the competition.

Schedule - when it came to the timing of the project he did exactly what he said he was going to do. The project was completed on time and without any drama whatsoever. Delroy was the main foreman for my job and Delroy takes such pride in his work and was happy to give me tours and explain things I didn't understand.

No Cutting Corners - when it comes to underpinning cutting corners seems like the wrong approach (both figuratively and literally). Clifford and his team did the work by the books and I really appreciated that. There were no delays occasioned by doing things the right way but some contractors will suggest that there will be. Every time we needed the city to come and inspect, they were there without delay (book it today and they are there tomorrow). Every time. My engineer was appraised of when he needed to attend and the visits were all on time and Clifford and his team always passed with flying colours. Doing it the right way gave me such peace of mind.

Nice people - it's nice to get quality work done and enjoy the folks you are working with (or the folks you have hired to do the job). From the first call to our last, I was grateful for how pleasant, calm and reassuring Clifford always was. Not to be taken for granted, Clifford!

We started looking for a contractor that specialized in underpinning as we didn't want to take any chances and our project had some complexities. We met with 4 contractors and Clifford stood out as I could tell he could handle the job and priced the job fairly compared to other quotes I got.

I didn't want to go with the cheapest or the most expensive I wanted someone who could deliver on our expectations.

Clifford and his team worked diligently and came in on budget and on time which we were impressed with given the complexity.

Pegasus was professional and respectful of our space as we and our tenants continued to live in the home while they worked in the basement. Would recommend getting them to quote on your next underpinning project.

Cliff and his crew were great. They worked quickly and were very knowledgeable. It was a big project which included the following:
- Full basement underpinning. Height went from approx 6 feet to approx 8ft
- Escavation of basement extention with cinderblock foundation
- All new underground plumbing
- Replaced old wooden beam and masonry posts with steel

I am satisfied with the result and would recommend Pegasus.

Cliff and his crew (Dan, Lincoln, Bernard) did a fantastic job underpinning our 100+ Yr old semi detached in East Toronto. While COVID and the lockdowns provided its challenges and delayed the start of our job, Cliff and his team worked very quickly and diligently to complete our job in 8wks (Christmas holiday inclusive). This was our second major project with Pegasus and we’ve been thrilled with the results on both.

There were several challenges with our job, most notably with difficult access to the basement (for dirt removal) and lack of space for a disposal bin. While many other underpinning companies simply told us straight up that they couldn’t give us a quote or work with such restrictions without egregious cost, none of these challenges posed an issue for Cliff. He and his team always found a way to get it done.

Additionally with the COVID induced shift to online learning for schools, Cliff had to schedule work around our neighbors who had children learning during school hours. Not only was he and his team able to accommodate, but it did not slow down the completion of the job.

All in all, I would wholeheartedly recommend Cliff and Pegasus for any concrete foundation or underpinning work. We’ve been extremely satisfied with their work on both of our projects at our current home.
