mudding and taping

I would not recommend Murray of Revival Custom Walls and Ceiling as he misrepresented himself as a professional in the drywall/taping business.

We hired Murray to tape and mud the main and upper loft of our newly built house. He was local and had the credentials we were looking for - Better Business Bureau Member and he represented himself as a "unique" contractor one of only a few who had a "pre-paid" licence (later we discovered the registry did not have his name listed on the registry). He told us he would do a good job ( his contract states a high standard of
work) and would be done the job on May 15, 2014. 9 days in total. Well it stretched out to 20 days and then abandoned the worksite without completing the work.

His contract states hours of Mon to Fri 7a-5p. He would be at our place past 10p and 7a on the weekends but only put in 2-4 hrs a day - sometimes coming only for an hour - he continually explained he had to repair another site where we put the wrong corner molding - later he changed his story to tell us that the customer changed their mind - then he changed again to the fact he took another job.

He had one bad review with the BBB, but we weren't too worried because things can happen - after all its construction and things don't always go as planned. We did sign a contract, he reminded us of this anytime we saw major flaws in his work - during that process he also bad mouthed our builder which I didn't appreciate. We really liked our building contractor, we got along fine with our builder and were surprised.

His process started out poorly, Murray showed up a day late, he did call to inform us but then things didn't seem right - he would only show up late in the day - as if we were the night time project. As we watched his process, there didn't seem to have any rhyme or reason to the process - Started first coat in some places and then didn't finish, then started some second coat had first coat in some and then started what he called the POLISH COAT - when we could tell that there were multiple areas first coat was not even complete.

He asked for more money part way thru that wasn't in the contract, trying to charge us more money to go around the timbers that were there when he did the quote. Then, we found him priming and sealing walls while still sanding, and in fact some areas were covered in primer before they were ever sanded or had first coat of mud. The walls are now like sandpaper, and many places are uneven as he just piled on more mud where he forgot to sand.

My breaking point was when he primed the feature wall in our home "purple". He had left over primer from another job! So his thoughtlessness created more work for himself and more tension with him as the contractor.

He said he would clean up every day and didn't - which complicated things when he started priming and sand and dust were everywhere. The walls were so bad with imperfections and the corner beads were bubbling so bad, because they were not done properly. You can see the seams on the feature wall because it appears as only one coast of finish was applied. These were brought to his attention and he said he would fix - yet never did.

After this entire process, he basically ran away from me leaving the invoice in the house saying we had two days to pay or it goes to a collection agency. Murray never walked me through the house to show the completed work, ask for my feedback etc. After he abandoned the house, we noticed the corner beads were not fixed and you can still see the seams on the feature wall. He walked off the job before it was complete.

He breached his contract many times with hours of operation, high standard of work, and use of off brand paint (he made a big deal of the type of paint we had to use to retain the warranty).

If you want someone that is honest and does a high standard of work this is not the company. In fact, we are not sure he has done many drywall jobs at all - based on the workmanship and process.

Approximate cost of services:
$5,200.00
