Unique By Design

Ceramic Tile in Kitchen/Hallway/Laundry/Bathroom Failed after 4 months. Eventually most of the tiles became loose. Contacted owner of company and he refused to fix the tiles without more payment. He blamed it first on floor deflection, then possibly cement failure. We ended up tearing out the whole installation and replaced for a cost of over $12000. This owner does not cover his warranty. The company that tore out the installation was able to save most of the tiles because they were so loose. Terrible work and service. They also took almost 5 weeks to complete the job which they said would only take 2-3 weeks.

I believe we were the Company's first project in Bancroft following a recent relocation from Durham region (where they are still servicing). Having dealt with many other contractors in the Bancroft region, I know word of mouth will spread quickly since most contractors in the area seem to lack the traits noted above. Give them a call and you'll see right away that unlike most, the owner actually answers his phone! Or will get back to you in short order. Looking forward to using Unique by Design on future projects, and will definitely be recommending him to all our friends on the lake.

Tiles started to come loose only 4 months after install. Owner of Unique by Design first blamed it on floor deflection. Came and fixed one area, and removed grout in another area. More areas came loose as time went on within the first year. Company then blamed it on cement failure, and wanted us to pay 1/2 of redoing the complete install again. We offered to pay half of re-install, by another company. Owner of Unique by Design refused, as he just wanted more money from us. Told him we were not comfortable with him redoing the install, and he refused to do anything at that point.
Do not use this company as they do not stick to there warranty at all.

Our kitchen was due for an update. I obtained several quotes, yet didn't feel comfortable with the individuals. Gut feeling.
I phoned John, and he came by the house. I explained that I wanted a classic simple elegant look, something that wouldn't look dated in several years. We went with a new gas stove, and it had no back panel. The backsplash needed a focal point. John was so helpful, and he suggested tile types, how they would work with what we wanted. I left the design up to John.
I am absolutely thrilled with the result.
John's quality of workmanship, professionalism, understanding the customer's vision is impeccable.
I am so happy my "gut" feeling came through for me again.

John completed two renovations for us. His work is impeccable! He takes great pride in his work, and spends the time required to ensure the details are respected. Tiles are plumb, level and to line, the materials used are researched and correct for the application. Both projects turned out above our expectations. If you want you project done right then John is the guy to have it completed by.

John and his company Unique by Design were hired to complete the tile and hardwood finishing for our basement finishing project due to their professionalism in detailing the requirements for the project and quoting accordingly. Based on his recommendations he delivered the results we expected and were overjoyed with while on budget.
