Basement renovations

AWFUL! He was dishonest to my face, disrespected me and my property, did amateur mediocre work and if I had not gotten a second opinion and continued with his work, I could have had CATASTROPHIC damages to my home. He is very quick to blame other people when a project takes long or if an order doesn't come in on time. When I fired him and had to take over myself I called our supplier to find out from them that he was very difficult to deal with, didn't return their many phone calls, and the items we had purchased two months ago (that he was blaming them for the delay) half of them he gave the wrong sizes and half of them were not even ordered! ALL of the doors he ordered opened the wrong way which is common sense that a door should open in the correct direction that the lightswitch is immediately accessible. When confronted about issues he would ignore my concerns or be dishonest and blame it on someone else. I would ask him when the electrician or plumber were coming and he would say he was waiting to hear back from them. I called them myself to find out that he had never even called to book them. He told me that I had to wait for him to level my floor before he could tile it, but now I see that he never even levelled the floor and made it up to buy himself time. When tiling my shower he didn't waterproof it. I had two different contractors come in and say immediately that it was done all wrong and the way he would have done it would lead to leaks, rotting and black mould. But of course when you tell him this he says "I've been doing this for 15 years, I've installed thousands of showers" and never apologizes or accepts responsibility. He would do a job half way and then start another one without finishing the first one. Now I have to pay a REAL professional to fix the awful job that he did. In addition to this, when he was doing the drywall and framing he left the garbage from it in my backyard for THREE MONTHS! And it was during the summer months so my family could not enjoy our back yard during the summer. He never ever cleaned up after himself and didn't have any respect for my property. I would ask him to make sure my doors were locked as there are thefts in my area and when he would forget I would remind him kindly and he would deny or deflect blame. I have no problem with someone making a mistake, saying oops I forgot. But all he does is deflect blame and never apologize or take accountability for his actions. When I would ask him about the timelines and promises he made and the lack of cleanliness he would respond with the fact that he has other clients who are happy with him and that he's been doing this for 15 years and knows what he's doing. Originally I hired him in December and he estimated he would be done the project in February. To be fair there were surprises along the way with electrical and plumbing that needed to be addressed first, but into October he still wasn't done. WAY TOO LONG. He does not take accountability for his actions and does not care about a customer's concerns. His work is amateur and the fact that he didn't know that you shouldn't tile a shower right on to drywall and that it has to be waterproofed is downright ridiculous. Common sense that a shower needs to be waterproofed. He argued saying that you don't have to waterproof a shower in a residential area... that makes absolutely no sense. Waste of time and stress hiring him. Completely unacceptable.
