I contacted several landscaping companies to inquire about quotes for deck, side yard and front landscaping. We first contacted Justin at Iron Owl to get a quote on a stone paver pathway for the side of the house in Fall of 2019 but he made such a good first impression that we proceeded to significantly expand our project to include a new backyard composite deck. From getting the estimate to completing the job, Justin was super professional, easy to communicate with, and meticulous for details.

He provided a nice visual of computer-generated 3D image to help get feel for the look of the deck, outlined the differences and costs of the various composite products, provided his own personal experience with them, and what would work better for our south-facing, high-sun exposure backyard. Throughout the project, he listened to our ideas, suggested design modifications, and updated the costs in writing to reflect these changes. Any potential challenges with the weather forecast and timelines were also always communicated to us.

Justin is a true craftsman and he and his team were hard workers that were very respectful of our property by always keeping an organized worksite and cleaning it up after every day. He is passionate about his work, always willing to explain how and why he is completing the construction in a certain manner. This passion in the attention to detail which we were able to witness first-hand on a day-to-day basis because we were working from home during the summer. He was also more than willing to share his knowledge and tips with my neighbour who was re-doing his backyard composite deck.

We now have a functional pathway along the side of the house that drains properly and a beautiful new deck and bar that makes spending time in our backyard more enjoyable – especially since we do not have to see paint flaking all the time. We also have confidence and peace of mind knowing we have a high-quality new deck and not have to worry for as long as we own the house. I would highly recommend Justin to anyone looking to improve their outdoor space.

We recently had a unique three level deck designed and installed by Iron Owl. We cannot say enough positive things about Justin’s professionalism, detailed craftsmanship, and genuine desire to produce a work of art. From the screw piles to the base structure, to the actual decking itself, Justin cut no corners and created a solid, beautiful structure that we will enjoy for years to come. He also redesigned our front walkway making it more interesting, welcoming and yet durable enough to withstand country living. We appreciated his well designed contract with no hidden extra expenses. We started the deck project by having IronOwl design the layout. The proposed layout included 2 decks and a patio setting. Once we reviewed the design, we chose the deck and patio materials based on IronOwls recommendations. From start to finish, every step of the way, we were impressed with the quality of workmanship and communication during the project. The frame for the deck is superbly built and the patio prep work of gravel underlay and tamping was top notch. Details like steps, corners, water proofing, angles and patio curves, were all
executed flawlessly. We were so impressed, were planning another phase to expand the project!

We're so lucky we received an IRON OWL flyer. Justin, Sara, & Logan are total professionals in transforming your ideas into reality. The entire process was handled with patience, creativity, communication, & care. We're now like many in Calgary, part of this unique group of proud IRON OWL clients, who love their new addition to their homes. I wish I had good photos to show off their creation, but not having landscaping too match their work would be a shame. So in 2020 we'll be fixing that. We wanted a bit of a Las Vegas pool vibe in our back yard. Iron Owl delivered! Justin listened to our ideas, explained our material options, and gave us a detailed estimate which was in line with the other estimates we received. The difference was that Iron Owl appeared to have a higher level of attention to detail and craftsmanship. It didn't take long to realize our hunch was correct. They always showed up on time and kept our yard tidy when they left. The quality of workmanship was high on the large and small details; I even saw them use a square to line up deck screws! I feel like the deck is basically indestructible, and we could park a car on our patio. We wished we would have hired them sooner; they couldn't start until August, and as fast as they completed the project summer was about over. 2020 summer can't come fast enough.

We are thrilled with our new deck. The planning process with Justin was very corroborative. We weren't exactly certain of the vision of what we wanted so Justin provided guidance and suggestions to coach us along as we worked through the process. The finished product is larger than our previous deck yet it also opens up the backyard at the same time. Justin is hands on with the construction and takes extreme pride in his work and is very meticulous and precise ensuring that everything is top notch. Iron Owl is a first class family business we'd be please to work with again.
