Wall Oven Repair

DO NOT CALL THESE PEOPLE!!!! I have read the previous reviews on homestars and believe them to be truthful and accurate. Last week a very nice guy named Joe came for the first visit (not being sarcastic btw) and even arrived a bit early, which was nice. He informed me the office didn't tell him it was a wall oven (which I had clearly informed them it was) and if I didn't help him lift it out and put it back he'd have to leave and come back with a second guy some other day. I wanted my oven fixed so I helped him, bad back and all. Just like reviews previously, following the diagnostic check the $80 charge for the service call disappeared and a $280 labor charge appeared + whatever part(s) was required. Now for the red flags.
#1 They wouldn't place the order for the required part unless full payment was made by cash or debit . What legitimate company springs that on you once they’re in your home? Their website says all major credit cards accepted. I strongly insisted if your debit machine is working then so is your credit card machine-it's the same machine! He allowed me to "try" my visa, acting skeptical but it went through right away, despite the "issues" they'd been having with the network.
#2 Nobody called to explain why they didn’t show up last Fri/Sat as the first tech had promised they would. I had to track them down today to find out what’s up.
#3 Denise informed me this afternoon they wouldn't be able to come for six more days. Not acceptable but c'est la vie. I mentioned having to assist the first technician with the lifting and to ensure they send a second guy the next time. She informed me a guy to help lift the wall oven would be an additional charge of $80 + HST and that next Monday wouldn't be possible. It would be a date further in the future. I could write more but I’ll stop.
Please don't be sucked in by the fact they come up #2 when you google oven repair on google.ca or the fact that someone made them a decent website. READ THESE REVIEWS THEN TURN AND RUN!!!

Dish Washer Repair

BEWARE!! The guy showed up and had no idea what he was doing. Kept leaving the house every 15 mins or so to speak to someone on his cell phone. Left without finishing but not before scratching the door of the unit and driving a screw up through a new countertop. I got an entire $50 for my "inconvenience" but not before having to sign a waiver. You cannot speak to the owner and the staff that you can speak to are useless. Apparently their reputation with the BBB is terrible as well. Wish I had checked here first. Someone needs to put these guys out of business

Washing Machine Repair

Don't hire these guys!! Will change $80 for service call, then when they've checked out your machine, there is a large "labour" quote. In my case, $280 plus parts. I asked how long the job would take and he said 40 minutes...."we charge by the project not by the hour". You sign agreement. Then, 40 minutes later he appears and tells me he only now found out my machine's bearings are terribly damaged....$1,200 quote to repair! Of course I can buy new machine for that and refused. He absolutely should have seen the bearings problem right away (confirmed when I sought a second opinion directly from the manufacturer's recommended repair people.). I complained to Appliance Repair Guys that at the very least they should only have charged the service call....the technician and the company refused. DO NOT USE THEM. Pass on the word.

Fridge Repair

Called them to come and have a service call done on my fridge which has been on the fritz. Guy came and was very nice. Said its 80 dollars to open it up and do an assessment. Told me then he can fix it for $280 plus parts. No more then 5 min after taking 2 readings, “I can fix it, its less money to buy a new one”.

That is what $280 dollars is worth….. so what was the assessment for? Tell me its not working….Hi that’s why I called.

Called the manager and she told me that that is the Labor cost of doing nothing…. Nothing she can do cause I signed the service form when he asked if I wanted it fixed. Hence why I called.

I confirmed with her so really for him to look at the fridge the service call is actually $280, and she could not explain otherwise.

Save your money and time and don’t use these people. They are frauds. If you can’t fix it and it took less then 5 min, then you should only have to pay the $80 dollars which I was more then welcome to pay, and even tip.

gas dryer repair

My gas dryer was working but had no heat. Repair guy used internet to look up required repairs. He replaced two parts, neither of which fixed the problem. Suggested he order more parts and if that didn't work the problem had to be the main circuit board. It's funny but that's pretty much the exact same routine they used previously when they fixed my gas range. The problem is this time I paid $280 and not only did they not fix my dryer but they broke it. The dryer now does not work at all. I don't believe these guys are qualified repairmen and I believe they always blame the main circuit panel to maximize the charge. Had I proceeded with repairs to ny dryer it was going to cost about $800 and I still had no guarantee or confidence it would be fixed properly.

Dryer repair

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! Our story is the same as the others. February 8th, 2 technicians come to do the repair. Once they check out the dryer they tell us they have located the problem and it will cost $280 but it will be more if they need to order any parts. Then they get you to sign your approval for them to do the repair. Big surprise... they found another problem and they needed to order a part. They told us they fixed the first problem so we could still use the dryer on one of the timed program settings until this other part came in. Later that day we found out it did not work as they said it would. When we called them we were met by rude and insulting customer service staff and manager. We were told that unfortunately these things happen sometimes and that the fine print on the agreement was in 2nd grade english so we should have understood it. I have never had such bad customer service in my life!!! Needless to say we are not giving any more of our money to this company and hope that this review stops someone else from having the same frustrating and expensive experience.

Dryer repair

Same story as last guy. Had my dryer repaired on jan 31 for $320, was told might need part, no more than $80-100. I told the tech that I rather get a new dryer if I have to pay more. He told me the machine should last another 6-10 years. The dryer worked one cycle. I called the on Feb 3, on Feb 4, the tech came back with a quote of over $500for a new panel. A new dryer would only cost me $600 to $800.Was mislead, paid for repairs that didn't work. The technician hung up on me when I talked to him. I called customer service, was told that they did the work and they are not refunding anything. Asked them to refund the repair money, they refused. I wish I had read these reviews.

dishwasher repair

* $330 paid to "fix" dishwasher
* SAME problem persisted after technician left
* 5 days to reply to complaint that nothing is fixed
* reply: pay another $450 for a control panel
* would be GOOD to know total estimate up front; because it's greater than the cost of a new dishwasher.
* Now I'm out $330 and need to buy a new dishwasher OR pay another $450 ($780 total) to these people and risk another rip-off. Not throwing good money after bad. Won't be fooled 2x

Eaton Viking range, oven element repair

I live in a basement apt and have a Eaton Viking range (yes, very old). The stove works great but the bottom element in the oven stopped working. I verified it was not the fuse and knew it would require a professional. My landlord said he would look into getting a refurbished range and just replace the old one. I did some research and it looked like the average price would be $500 for a refurbished 22" range. So, thinking I was doing my landlord a favor, I went online and found Appliance Repair Guys. Surely it would be cheaper to just repair it right? When I called I was told it would be $80 to come out to diagnose the problem. The repair itself would then include the $80. Okay, sounds good so far. So I agreed and they booked for the technician to come out the next day.
When the technician arrived, within 5 mins he told me it would be an automatic $280 (-$20 "inconvenience rebate" for switching the time of day the tech would come) for a total of $293.80 taxes incl. Just 20 mins later, after testing wires, signals and sensors, he told me it was the relay switch that needed to be replaced and once the part was in he'd charge me for the part but not the installation. I asked him how much for the part and he estimated anywhere between $50 and $200 :-S So I told him okay and to call me back with the price and how long it would take. He said he would personally call me back that night. He also assured me that this range is way better than any new ones made these days and that once this problem was fixed it could last indefinitely.
Well, big surprise, no call that night and no call then next night. The weekend passed and still no call. I finally called them on the Monday morning. They said they were looking for the part but since its such an old unit it may not be available but they will call me back. (oddly, they encouraged me to call back as well). I then did a quick Google search on a relay for an Eaton Viking and was able to find a bunch of hits very quickly. So why was this taking so long? They are supposed to be the experts on this stuff!!
So I just called back now... what a major disappointment! The customer service agent told me the unit is so old the part may not be available. Then she said we are still trying to find the part and will call me back when they can. I told her I don't understand why I paid $300 to basically diagnose the problem!! That's the labor cost she said, to diagnose the problem. What??? I am VERY disappointed. And now, because it was me that called them in and not my landlord, I feel obligated to pay for the mistake even though my very nice landlord said he would split it with me. He wasn't happy at first because he said he could get a refurbished one for $250. But this was my stupid mistake to call the Appliance Repair Guys in the first place. Please DO NOT make the same mistake I made. NEVER use these guys unless you have $300 to throw away!

Service

I had a similar experience to others who posted on here. I was told that it was an $80.00 charge to diagnose the problem. That is completely misleading. They make you sign a contract of a minimum labour charge of $280.00 BEFORE the diagnosis. After the technician took about the circuit board of my oven, he claimed I needed a new one which would cost over $700.00. I decided not to go ahead with the repair. The worst part was that my oven was in working condition, one of the elements and the digital display board was not working. After the technician tampered with the circuit board, my oven was no longer working! When I spoke with the manager Ilona, she basically told me it was my fault for not asking before hand! In addition, she would not give me her last name or the names or contact information of the owners. It is all very suspect. I will be following up with the Better Business Bureau as well Consumer Protection. I urge others who have had similar experiences to do the same to possibly put an end to this fraudulent company.
