Hiring Duane (the owner of JD Painting in Calgary) to paint the exterior of my house was one of the worst mistakes I have ever made. Within mere days of paying him most of what he was owed, the paint began to peel. The fence and large areas of the siding had been only given one coat of paint. {It was not an issue of running out of paint. He left a large painter’s bucket full of paint when he walked away from the job. Perhaps he thought a female senior citizen was more than capable of climbing a ladder 2-3 stories to do a proper paint job.} When shown the problems, the charming French Canadian gentleman transformed into a raging bull yelling at me saying the siding was rotten. The siding was saturated from all the rain, but certainly not rotten. Inadequate preparation and poor quality paint (I paid for upgraded paint.) resulted in a paint disaster. Although he was unable to cover the required areas with paint, he managed to drip or spray paint on: neighbor’s RV, cobblestone decking, windows, soffits, parging, exterior lights, doorbell buzzer, gas line to barbecue, hose, extension cord, and even the pitchfork in the and the composter. A well-known reputable painting company representative has looked at the mess and will fix it doing what JD Painting should have done in the first place. They will scrape, sand, and brush or roll high quality self-priming paint on the siding and remove paint from soffits. RATING: On a scale of 1 – 10, JD Painting in Calgary cannot make it onto the scale. I have to give him a “0”.
