AGM Renovations

We contracted with AGM Renovations for a large kitchen renovation. We read the many very good online reviews and decided to proceed. Part way through the project, we decided to read the reviews again, focussing on just the poor ones, and found these much closer to our experience. The contract cancel costs are exorbitant [70% of cost of materials once design phase is complete, which is before any work has started], so we wanted to believe things would work out well.
The General Contractor (GC) was onsite a total of 7 times, and a total of 24 hrs [equiv. of 3 work days]. We were not happy with the quality of some of the work, including drywall repairs, caulking and door installation and had the work brought to a higher standard by ourselves and contractors of our choosing, at our expense.
After the initial 2 day cabinet install, it was determined that 9 end panels and doors were missing, as well as filler strips in 10 areas, that shelves were missing for all the lower cabinets and many of the upper cabinets, that hardware to install handles on the 22 drawers was not provided and an additional 66 shelf brackets were required. We detailed these deficiencies to the Project Manager (PM) electronically. After waiting several weeks we purchased the missing hardware, at our expense, and installed the handles and whatever shelves were available. Approx. 6 weeks after initial install we were informed that AGM had severed ties with the original cabinet manufactr and they sent cabinet manufactr 2. We spent half a day walking him through the project and providing him with the list of deficiencies. Over the next 5 weeks that group was onsite an additional 3 times but we realized on the last visit that the completion pieces they had manufactured were not a colour match, were not the same profile as the original cabinets and were not a lacquer finish. We reported these deficiencies to the PM and 2 weeks later AGM send Cabinet Manufr 3. We went through the same process with them walking them through the project and deficiencies.
AGMs website states No Need to deal with contractors, No need to invite strangers into your home. Our experience was the opposite. During the initial 17 visits by subcontractors neither the GC, nor any other AGM personnel were onsite to instruct, direct or supervise their chosen subcontractors. This required that we the client obtain from AGM the schematics for the kitchen/pantry layout, walk each contractor through the site, provide basic information as to the requirements, and deal with any resulting mistakes and damage they caused which, in our opinion, there was on multiple occasions. The subcontractors supervised by us the client included, cabinet manufacturer number 1, plumber, electrical assistant, electrician, HVAC, counter manufactr, cabinet manufactr 2, cabinet manufactr 3, and cabinet painter.
The project was completed 9.5 mos after the final design meeting, whereas the AGM contract and literature states an estimated 8-9 weeks to substantial completion. Our view is that this was an excessively long delay. At 10 weeks our kitchen looked substantially the same as the day of demo and we had not seen the AGM GC once since the 3 hrs he spent during demo.
The delays were in our view caused by choices made by AGM. If AGM had not eliminated ties with cabinet manufactr 1, we believe at least 4 months of the delays could have been reduced. As well, if the GC had properly executed his responsibilities including properly scheduling and supervising subcontractors, and attending the work site on a more regular basis, we believe further delays could have been mitigated. Further, if AGM had properly vetted, supervised and monitored cabinet manufactr 2 then we believe another 1.5 to 2 months of delays could have been mitigated.
In our opinion if you want to avoid a high pressure sales process, avoid frustration, avoid having to virtually beg for the work you paid for be completed, be treated fairly, and you desire quality work completed in a reasonable time period, do NOT use AGM Renovations

We hired AGM renovations to do our Master Bedroom Ensuite renovations. Our Designer's initials were YR, our Project Manager's initials were AL. The subcontractor assigned to our job's initials were AN.

The work started in December of 2021 and ended in early Feb of 2022. The work was delayed at various times (work was also being done during the Christmas holidays of 2021, with our consent, of course. We just wanted it to be over by that stage).
Our original star date of Nov 2021 was pushed to Dec 2021 due to supply chain issues (the jacuzzi tub we selcted was on backorder. They still sent the wrong one to our house and we were delayed again for another 2 weeks halfway through as they sorted that mess out....we still did not end up with the original tub; but settled on the one we got as something comparable and in our house).

For anyone still considering using AGM, you should be aware that each person who uses AGM and is willing to provide a 5 star review is given an extra 6 months on the AGM warranty. We put in a warranty claim within 6 months; so even though they offered us the 6 months extra, we did not feel, in good conscience, we could accept it (mainly because a 5 star review was never going to happen.

The initial stages of our job went pretty smoothly. You are assigned a designed who will help you pick and choose your finishes from their available options (anything extra is either at an extra cost or at your own cost and risk). Payments are made with initial deposit of 5% or so and then 3 payments are made along the way.

We gutted our bathroom and replaced everything. We did get the wrong tub, even after the initial delay to try to avoid a tub issue. There were many defects in workmanship with multiple tiles broken, scratched or split within our new standup shower. a broken shower faucet that was broken and then caulked together to make it look like it was fine (and had to be corrected using the warranty route) along with scratched nickel plated faucet and a discoloured drain in one of the 2 sinks.

The bathroom is a major improvement from where is was before; but the lack of honest workmanship and care was very disappointing, especially after we had such high hopes from reading all the glowing reviews in early to late 2021. At the time, we did not know that some may not have been honest 5 out of 5's. My honest review would be somewhere between 3.5 to 4. I would have loved to have given a 5; but when you get a new bathroom and there is a coating of dust in your garage and all over your new bathroom such that you cannot see the cracked and damaged finishes until you clean it yourself, something is wrong.

AGM did respond to my warranty claim; and, repaired all of the defects. It took 4 or 5 separate visits to do so which finally gave us the use of our bathroom, fully in the summer of 2022 (way too long, in my opinion).

I think you can get better workmanship that what I got for the price. It may be difficult to find; but any time you spend on the front end finding someone that cares about quality work will pay dividends in the finished product. Do your research. Don't trust every review you read, either, unless you can find out if it was incentivized in some way.

Our bathroom was very old and we hired AGM to renovate it. We had an excellent renovator Andy who worked on this project. We have everything new and beautiful! We love the sink, toilet, shower, bathtub, floor tiles, vanity and pot lights. Workers were professional and they completed everything on time. Any flaws that appeared later were quickly repaired without hesitation. Our communication with the AGM office was also superb!

AGM Renovations renovated our kitchen last month. In addition to installing new cabinets and countertops, they also did the floor tile, backsplash, electrical work, plumbing, patching and painting. The quality of workmanship has been excellent and all the trades were very courteous and always on time. I will be looking to hire AGM again for future renovations.

We recently had a master bathroom renovation done by AGM.The trades crew were wonderful! They were knowledgeable, punctual, paid attention to detail, and had extremely competent construction skills. The cleaning crew cleaned up thoroughly each day. The project completed within the quoted budget. The quality control lady Lina communicated with us regularly. The bathroom has turned out amazing and we love it! We highly recommend AGM for excellent work and trustworthy service!

The process was excellent. Start to finish from the initial visit to get the estimate and design to the installation. Very professional and friendly. Work was done on time and beautiful result.

I am very pleased with the kitchen renovation by the AGM team at my home. I got what I wanted as our project manager Alex was both able to understand my requirements and to turn them into a beautiful reality. A worn out, old, and inconvenient kitchen has been turned into a great kitchen space to dine and enjoy family get together. What I most appreciate from AGM is their ability to find solutions to all the problems that came up during the renovation (regulations, plumbing deterioration, etc.). I will definitely call AGM again when I am ready for my next renovation project.

This is AGM quality right here for anyone interested. This is what they considered finished work in the bathrooms, with blatantly notable gaps in the baseboards, clearly unfinished anything under the vanities, giant holes inside the vanities with no attempt at closing anything up, and then when they were finally done, using my bathrooms like public washrooms. Which considering the job they did I can see why they would think that, although not even public washrooms look this bad.

Oh and the electrical work is the intentional damage they did to my brand new range hood instead installing an outlet to plug it into and never bothered to tell me about it until I found out.

Only after fighting with them did I get these things eventually resolved, shockingly.

Right now they've gone over their completion date by 8 days because of constant poor workmanship and negligence which is clear for anyone to see but now they refuse to compensate me on their own late policy due to some logistical mess up on their own employees doing. So not only is the work poor, but the employees themselves aren't on the ball.

I honestly just want them to credit me what I'm owed by their own guarantees and be done with this nightmare of an experience.

As of right now they refuse to even acknowledge any mistakes they've made and are now not even responding to my requests to talk to someone about just getting this resolved and moving on.

So now I've had to resort to writing online reviews to put their shame out there for the public to view, judge, and be cautious of.

Your move now AGM. Keep ignoring me if you want to. One of us is being honest while the other hides and hopes it goes away quietly. Which honestly is something I usually do, stomach the bad and try to move on.

Not this time, not with you guys at the very least.
