Moving

I hired We Care based on their low quote to move me from Calgary to Edmonton. On the day of the move, I was asked to pay far above what the original quote was. My main complaint however, has to do with their claim of " we pride ourselves on our incredible record of damage free moves."
When the truck was opened at my destination, I saw immediately that a large plant had fallen over. One of the movers grabbed the plant quickly, stuffed it back into the pot (roots were exposed etc.), and said "It's ok, it's ok." I let it go because in the grand scheme of things, it's a plant. The plant has survived although it's not looking too healthy, and I discovered, after the movers had left, that the pot was actually broken. Perhaps that was why the mover was so quick to get it off the truck and place it with the broken part of the pot facing a wall.
The next item coming off the truck damaged was my living room floor lamp. The base material (concrete) was completely shattered under the lamp, and it would not stand upright. The mover put duct tape on the broken concrete and blamed my lamp, stating that many floor lamps are built the same way, and therefore break at the slightest bump. It didn't occur to me until later to question if they knew that, why they didn't protect the lamp base better to begin with? Again, I let this go, because it was an old lamp, not very expensive, and I was planning to buy some new lamps anyway.
Finally, the ;mover put together an antique vanity/jewelry table I have. The table has a hinged top that opens on both sides. The mover had insisted on removing the hinged pieces, and wrapped them separately to protect them. One of the corners of the hinged top was completely smashed. I noticed it after the mover had put the table back together, and I'm still not sure why/how he didn't notice it then. I showed him and he immediately said he knew the best furniture repair person in Calgary, and that he would take it back to Calgary with him for repair and return it to me in three weeks when he came back to Edmonton on another job. It is now November 16, and I still have not received this piece back. I have called the company and spoken to the owner (who was the mover that day) at least five times since the end of September. Each time, he tells me he is really busy, and makes it seem like I am irritating him by calling and questioning him. During one conversation he told me that, "I told you I would get it fixed, so why are you calling?" His job didn't bring him back to Edmonton in September, so I was told he was waiting until he could come up again. During our last phone call, I asked him to send it by courier or mail immediately, and he said he would do that the next day. This was over 2 weeks ago now. My next phone calls are to the Better Business Bureau and my lawyer. No wonder they claim to have an incredible record of damage free moves! They hide the damage, or simply take it away. Clients beware!!
