Full Re-do of the back yard

Jeff and his team did a good job on the proper grading on the south side of our house in 2013, so we had him back for a full gut and redo of our back yard. Our yard had 3-4 inches of river rock and shale on the entire perimeter of the yard, 2 trees planted in strange places (one in front of another), and a pond (surrounded by even more shale rock) that was much too large for the size of the yard. We had Jeff and his team remove the trees & pond (we gave away the rock ourselves), removed the existing weed infested grass, and removed the existing very small patio. In it's place, went new grass to about 60% of the back yard, and the other 40% was a full width - fence to fence - quality stone patio with a proper set of steps from the back door. While it was a significant investment for us, we are very happy with the end result, and got 2 good months to enjoy it this year, and for many years to come. Jeff's team may not be the cheapest out there, but I can say he does good, solid, quality work. His team is also friendly and hard working.

Grading & concrete tiles on side of house

My wife and I purchased our 20+ yr old home in 2010 and always noted that the grading on the south side of our home wasn't done right. With the heavier rain volume storms in EDMT this summer, we decided to get it corrected. The team at Landscape Essentials were in and done in one full day, and it's already saved us a lot of headaches. Evening of Aug 29th, north EDMT received 25-30 mm of rain in about an hour. The work done provided excellent drainage as expected and kept our basement dry. Price was as expected and the work done delivered. Very happy with their work.

Final Grade

When they were doing the work I discussed concerns that it was done right and they guaranteed me they were doing it right and had not failed an inspection in 3 years. Well they failed it and now I have called and emailed and they would not return my messages to come back and fix it. After posting these comments, I was contacted by this company and they did come out and fix the problems so that we passed our inspection.

Company Response

Regretfully some of the facts in the last comment are true, There were corrections that needed to be made in order to pass the final grade, and yes I was unable to contact the customer back immediately after the notice of failure was givin by the inspector. At that time I was givin a 2 week window to have the property corrected so there were no extra costs associated to the project and that the home owners landscaping deposit would be returned by the builder.

The reason for not getting back to the customer immediately was because, and I say this with deep regret, but the owner and founder of the company Catherine Mary Kennett passed away at the age of 55 after a long battle with breast cancer on Aug 28 2012.

After dealing with internal company and family issues stemming from the loss of the companies founder, I had made contact with my customers from my ongoing and upcoming projects to follow up on status and timelines of completion. I had let my customers know that I was sorry for the delay in there projects and that I would have them fixed up and completed on the time we had initially discussed in our consultations.

The job was completed to spec, there was a final grade certificate granted to the customer and the deposit was returned to the home owner in full. There were no extra charges to the home owner for any of the work or materials needed to come back and fix the issues, from my company or from the inspector.

We here at Landscape Essentials take pride in our work and stand by our service and our guarantee. This year we have a full time sales staff devoted to answering phone calls to ensure situations like this will no longer happen. We offer a great customer experience and strive to be the best in the industry.
