I had my main bathroom renovated by Your Reno Guys in April-May 2017.
The quote process was thorough and informative. I liked that they had a standard flat rate for their installation services, and then I was responsible for sourcing my own materials.
I was hesitant at first about being responsible for sourcing my own materials and how easy that would be. Other renovation companies will source everything for you, but their services were $3,000-10,000 more than Your Reno Guys. I spent an afternoon going to Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Rona to figure out how easy it would be to source everything myself and decided it was worth it. Your Reno Guys provided the behind-the-scenes materials, but I bought the vanity, toilet, bathtub, shower hardware, towel bars, and tile. It was well worth it. Your Reno Guys picked everything up for me so I didn’t have to incur a delivery charge.
The reno started on time on Monday morning. Within 4 hours they had gutted the bathroom back to the studs and drywall. They had 3 workers there for demo day, then about 2-4 workers would come and go as needed throughout the reno. The workers were clean and always put down drop cloths in the morning, and vacuumed before they left. The first few days they were working full days, but once it was down to the tile, painting, and plumbing, they were only there for half days (approximately).
If there was one thing I wish they could have done better, it was in communicating the length of the work. I understand of course that jobs can change in how long they take. But it went from being 7 days (where they would work Monday to Monday, including the weekend) to 10 days (Monday to the following Friday, where they did not work the weekend). I was using a friend’s bathroom so it wasn’t a big deal, but I would have rather been given the longer timeline in the beginning.
About 3-4 months after the work was complete, the grout began to crack between the drywall and tile at the top of the shower. I brought this to Your Reno Guys attention and they came to fix it no problem; apparently it was supposed to be caulked and wasn’t, so they caulked it.
The bathroom is very well done with quality work, and I will certainly consider using them for future work.
We hired Your Reno Guys to do two bathroom renovations this Spring. Like several of the reviews here, our experience was less than great, not because of the work itself, but because of the owner. At our initial meeting, we were optimistic, but were challenged within minutes on the timing for the two projects - Mr. G checked the paper work, rather than take our word. In the spirit of cooperation, we tried to meet the company part way - and survived for weeks with only a shower in our ensuite.
I could go into significant detail about our experience, which for the most part, was pretty negative. Fortunately, some of the workers were efficient enough and did a great job; others, not so much. Day Two, we woke up to one of the bathrooms leaking to the floor below, requiring two ceiling areas to be opened up and repaired. The lack of direction given to other trades also caused them to have to return to redo work, including the electrician who miscalculated where new light fixtures would be installed, even though placement was clearly marked on the wall - and the new fixtures were even located in boxes on the same floor.
On a regular basis, we were subject to confrontational emails, and on more than one occasion, were yelled at over the phone. When we attempted to arrange a meeting to try and resolve issues, the owner refused - too busy, which was probably for the best, because almost every interaction was heated and stressful. As in one of the reviews, we contemplated Small Claims Court over a billing discrepancy. Although we were confident we would win if challenged, we decided it was easier to close this most unfortunate chapter, pay the added charge, and get on with our lives.
Would not recommend this company.
We hired Your Reno Guys in late 2014 to build a custom shower and tile our master bathroom. The work didn’t take too long to finish, though there were some unexpected delays with the tilers.
We paid for high-end work and materials, but the final product had some significant aesthetic and functional defects that were never fixed. The shower was never tested and had a depression that didn’t drain properly. The grout on the rest of the bathroom floor was poorly applied and changed from a brown to white colour.
During the project and after, there were several confrontational situations with the owner, John G., that we felt were unnecessary. Discussions about project scope and choices of materials were very heated and we were often yelled at. He refused to answer questions about significant increases to the bill and did not acknowledge the repairs that were needed. He blamed us for the defects without coming to see them. He threatened to sue us and to release our personal information to other contractors.
We pursued compensation in small claims court and were successful proving the shower defect, but it was a very costly process. The statements of costs showed that the owner spent more than $15,000 to fight against a defect that he claimed would cost only $1,000 to fix. The facts of our claim outlined above are publicly available in the record of small claims against Your Reno Guys.
Overall, our experience was very negative and will keep us away from this company and its owner in future.
Would never recommend this company. If you want professional work done, hire a professional company. These guys are not. Started a bathroom reno in our home. The work was so horrible for staff that were supposed to be professionals. Measurements were off and the tile job was disgusting. Had to hire another company to fix what they did and finish the job. Never again!
Similar to another comment on here the work was decent and the team was pleasant in our home, but the overall experience with this company was absolutely horrible. The owner in particular was extremely rude, fought me over every detail and was extremely disrespectful. I would NEVER recommend this company to anybody. I had to bring in a new contractor to do touch ups on Reno Guys work.
I had a renovation completed by this company earlier this year. The work was decent and the team was pleasant in our home, but the overall experience with this company was horrible. The owner in particular was extremely rude, fought me and my wife over every detail and was extremely disrespectful to us. The subcontractors for our electrical and plumbing were also never on time and rarely even showed up the day we were told - on many occasions it took over a week. The process was unreasonably slow and no one ever seemed to care. We are now looking into renovation other areas of our home and we would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. Product was fair but the quality and customer service was non-existent.
Your Reno Guys renovated my master bath and I couldn't be more pleased with the results and the quality of the work. I now have a beautiful functional bathroom. The guys were always polite and cleaned up at the end of every day which was a big plus. I would definitely hire this company again in the future.
Very efficient and conscientious workforce. Different tradespeople for various elements of the job, implying a range of expertise to draw upon. Job completed on time. Only negative experience was with the owner, who assumed the customer was wrong before checking facts.
Horrible service, John the owner is very immature and impolite. He was not professional in any way and did not respect me as a home owner. I would not recommend this company to anyone, if you want a renovation to be done properly and to be respected during the process, DO NOT CHOOSE YOUR RENO GUYS.
