Rear 2 Storey Addition with Detached Garage

Rear 2 story brick addition plus finished basement and new detached garage: After extensive research of numerous general contractors in the GTA, my husband and I found Steve Babcook from Kingsway General Contracting Services and I am so happy we did! Good friends of ours had used Kingsway during construction of their own two story rear addition and had nothing but good feedback from their own job.

We did a rear two story brick addition to our 100 year old home with two rear porches, a deck and a detached two car garage. We are so pleased with the quality of work done. We know our home is solidly built thanks to Steve and his crew.

We used a wide range of building materials and custom finishes on the job, including full brick combined with Hardie cement board siding, heated natural stone floors, ICF concrete foundation, extensively customized wiring with full ethernet network capability, Azek porch flooring and railing, hardwood floors and stairs, custom built wood mantels and trim for inset gas fireplaces, custom built cubbies and closets for kids in the mudroom, and the list goes on... Throughout the process Steve was hardworking, diligent, always made sure the job was done right and that we were happy with the results! Any time we wanted to add additional work to the project that wasn't covered by the original contract, Steve was very fair and honest and we never felt like we were taking advantage of or overcharged for extras that were done.

Steve went the extra mile to use green building materials at our request and let us pick and choose the exact finishing details and trim profiles we wanted.

Steve has a very friendly and courteous work crew who cleaned up each night, so impressive! This was very important to us as we lived in the original part of the house throughout the entire build process and his crew had numerous interactions with us and our children throughout the day.

The most important thing at the end of a large project like this is whether you would hire the same person again - we definitely will and plan to do our front porch and laundry room with them in the near future.. and have recommended Kingsway to our closest friends for their own renovation.

Framing two story addition + roof and other work

We were lucky to find Steve before he was on Homestars. We had already met with a bunch of other carpenters but Steve stood out with his fair price and professionalism. We could not be happier with the final results. Steve is a master carpenter and extremely knowledgeable about his craft and all aspects of building in general. He and his crew worked efficiently within our tight budget and on our even tighter timeline. He always answered our phone calls and came when he said he would (a very big deal to us!) Steve is also a great problem solver which was invaluable on our project which hit a bunch of unexpected snags along the way as any project invariably does. Everyone who has seen his work at our house has been impressed. Thanks so much Steve for a job well done!

French Doors, Flooring - laminate, tiles, Built staircase

We had a basic plan to add a door and change some of our floors. Steve offered excellent ideas and coached us the whole way. His work was organized and timely. He started our projects, kept us up to date on his progress and finished on time. We are so happy with our new kitchen doors - we wonder how we lived without them. Thanks Kingsway!

basement renovation

Quality work, done in a professional and timely manner at a reasonable cost were the attributes we were looking for in a company when we decided to renovate our basement. Kingsway General Contracting was that company.

Steve and his crew were very knowledgeable in their approach to our vision for the area bringing valuable recommendations and creative ideas, along with top notch workmanship by all trades to carry the project to completion.

We now have a lovely basement recreation space we are very proud of.

Thankyou Kingsway - Job well done.

One cottage reno and one house reno

Kingsway General Contracting was recommended to me by a friend 8 years ago after I bought a cottage that needed a full renovation on a limited budget. I obtained three detailed quotes and chose Kingsway for the following reasons; quality of work, best value for my money, excellent references, creative thinking, reliabilty, family oriented. My first reno was completed ON TIME (almost unheard of in the reno business) and I successfully sold the property for a profit. Three years ago, without hestation I again hired Kingsway to restorate a 39 year old home, which I needed completed within 8 weeks. The value of my home has increased way beyond the costs and I am truly grateful for the dedication, caring, and integrity of Steve, Kim and their crew have provided. My home is for sale and I am ready to hire them for my next investment home.

Remove front half of house and rebuild

We had foundation issues so we decided to tear down half of the house then rebuild with a basement and upgrade the kitchen. This involved underpinning existing foundation, a full basement, living area, bathroom. At this time we also tore out the kitchen, raised the ceiling, installed new tile floors and cupboards. During this time Steve was very helpful. His team was here working every day until the job was completed. I will definitely have Kingsway do our next reno and I have already recommended them to others.

New cottage

Steve and JP have done tiling, plumbing, woodwork, and stonework in the building. All their work has been A1 but I see the company's real strength in identifying and solving problems. Most trades just do the job required and leave. Steve identifies things that others have done wrong and corrects them and also looks ahead to ensure that the work they do will not cause problems for other trades. Steve has also been helpful with the design, thinking outside the box, and making suggestions about where I should go to look for specific items. Kingsway has been one of the few companies who actually shows up when they say they will and lets you know if they are delayed for some reason. Both Steve and JP like a challenge, are creative and do quality work.

Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
These comments are general comments not aimed at Kingsway General Contracting. Really do your research, ask for references and see the work the trades have done if possible. Get multiple opinions. Just because someone has been doing a job for many years does not mean they have been doing a good job. Be onsite if possible to oversee the work. If you want something specific make sure the trades do it your way not the way they want to do it.
