About a week ago we had a unusual leak in our basement. The connection pipe from the city line coming into our basement, that attached to our water meter, had slowly rusted from the inside out, and finally cracked. At first it was a trickle of water that soon turned into a river. Within minutes we were ankle deep in water. Unfortunately the break was before the main shut off valve to the house, so we had to put in an emergency call to the city to shut off the water from the outside. We had to establish a path for the water to flow into the drain while we waited, or the water level would have risen past the main floor within the 90 minutes it took for the city to arrive.
