Westside Drainage

Carlo inspected the drainage at our old house and offered practical solutions to prolong the life of the system, cleared out some blocked drains and worked with the gutter company to recommend best routing of rainwater through the drain system. I had my drainage inspected by another company who only gave me the replace it all $60K option, so I was thankful that Carlo was able to offer some solutions that were less extreme!

After discovering water on my basement floor and finding out it didn't have to do with a plumbing issue or leak, Carlo from Westside Drainage came by to take a look. He assessed potential areas where water could be coming from and did a video scope of my drain tiles. He walked me through every step and showed me what he would find. He assessed areas of concern and narrowed down where he felt the problem was. He then provided a couple of cost-effective options to fix. Carlo was thorough, knowledgeable and professional. I am thankful for the referral to Westside Drainage and now recommend them myself!

I called West Side Drainage to scope my perimeter drainage system because I was having trouble identifying a water leak. Carlo was onsite the next morning, and when I explained the problem, I was having, Carlo immediately felt the drainage was not the issue, he had another hunch and encouraged me to open the drywall from the inside with his guidance. From there he was able to identify the source of the leak based on clues inside the wall, a huge relief to resolve this mystery. I was only charged for his time which was a lot less than the original scope of work. I highly recommend Carlo based on his extensive knowledge and fair billing.

The sump in my 1950s bungalow basement has probably never had any maintenance and given that there is rotting foliage or roots in the sump space, I think it could be in urgent need of attention. In order to know what to do next I needed to understand where the water in the sump comes from and how the sump works and what my options are, given the Covid situation. I called Westside Drainage to try to get and understanding of the problem. Carlos took the time to explain the way the components of the 1950s sump and how it functions. He did this very clearly and patiently and I now understand the sump enough to anticipate the various directions the problems and how the repair might go, and to make some informed decisions. I enjoyed our conversation. Of course he could not make any recommendations without accessing the sump and seeing it for himself, which I hope will become possible when the Covid risk gets under better control in BC. Carlos is clearly an expert at what he does, was patient, personable and excellent in this first phase of what will likely continue as sump repair project with him when Covid allows it.

We were having drain tile problems in our townhouse complex. There was flooding in the ground floor duct work in one of the homes. We started out with a different company, who were unable to resolve the issue despite considerable time and money spent. When I called Carlo, he was very helpful right away on the phone. We made an appointment for him to come out and assess the situation. I found him to be very straightforward and knowledgeable. We (the strata) hired him to do the full job. Carlo did the work on time and on budget, and ultimately he solved our problem. He was very helpful with suggestions for preventing the problem from recurring in the future. Carlo was able to come at short notice due to a drainage emergency I was having and quickly assessed the situation and provided some immediate temporary solutions. He committed to a date to begin repair work within a few days to investigate further and put In the permanent solution. I found him to be very knowledgeable of his trade, open, honest and reliable with a drive to understand the whole picture to get the right solution. The final cost of the work came in significantly lower than his initial estimate as he discovered he could perform repairs in a more cost effective way based on further discovery. I recently bought a home in Vancouver and it was clear there were drainage problems and I had concerns about flooding. The previous owner did some creative fixes that made things worse and I was worried about potential impact. I reached out to Carlo and he came out to scope the existing drain tiles and tell me what needed to be done. He put me at ease and explained / showed me exactly what the problem was and the solution. He gave me a schedule of when the work can be started, and we agreed on a date.

We called Carlo on a very busy day for assistance with a backed-up drain-line that flooded part of our house. He arrived very soon after our call (even faster than promised), and quickly determined the source of the problem. He stayed on site until city engineers arrived, so he could personally report his findings to them. He called back later to check up and see if everything was OK, and gave us good advice for follow-up actions. We would definitely use his services again, and recommend him to others.

Carlo is a very knowledgeable and experienced contractor. We wanted to work with him because of his reputation as someone who will address problem areas and not automatically suggest and entirely new system be installed unless it is warranted. Carlo conducts a thorough assessment and provides a report identifying location of sewer line and location of sump, which was hidden under a basement subfloor. This information will be very helpful if future work ever needs to be done. I would not hesitate to recommend Westside Drainage to friends, family and neighbours.
