Carpentry At Its Best

Niall & team replaced an old deck and fence at my property that was very much past due for an upgrade. They did quality work, on time, and as quoted, and were helpful in making sure the project went smoothly overall. A great upgrade to the backyard!

We had wood fencing in our backyard on both the left and right side, but the back portion was a chain link fence. We contacted Niall to see if we could place up a wood fence to match the sides. He was quick to explain everything he would be doing and made sure we understood the process. A couple of weeks later he came in and within two mornings the fence was up and looked great. Niall was also able to fix the bowing side fencing while he was at it.

Overall very happy with his communication and the work performed. Niall and his team were very professional and easy to speak with when I had questions. I would not hesitate to call Niall, not only fencing but for any work To be done in and around the home.

This was the second project we worked with Niall and his team on after he added a bathroom to our main floor in September. We found extensive plumbing and water issues in our basement that we just had purchased. Plus the basement was old, dark and chopped into small rooms. So as a result we hired Niall and his team to demo, waterproof, and essentially put our entire basement back together with new everything. We created a new floor plan, relocated the bathroom and moved the laundry room from upstairs to downstairs. We knew and trusted Niall from experience on our first project that he would advise us through the process and rectify and address the issues as they arose. His team is friendly and very professional. After completion you can see it’s a beautiful end product. We already have passed Niall’s name to friends and would highly recommend him and his team for any project big or small.

We urgently needed new front steps after our old ones were damaged and not useable, and Niall came to our rescue. He and his crew are very busy but he found time to squeeze us in so we wouldn't be without stairs for months. He was so easy to work with every step of the way: he returned calls quickly, very direct, very knowledgeable (gave us great advice on what materials to use and how to ensure the rails were safe and to code), showed up when he said he would, finished the project within the time he promised. It's clear that he and his crew take pride in their work and the steps are so nice, really excellent quality. Last but not least, he saved us money by charging fair rates and not charging for some extras. Everyone, THIS IS THE GUY. Fast + excellent work + fair rates. I'm telling all the families in our neighbourhood about him.

Niall saved the day - and our basement! We had a terrible experience with a contractor that left a number of items either incomplete, a safety hazard or ruined.

Niall and his team came in, assessed the situation, were honest - it was going to require a lot of work to be re-done, but was compassionate to our situation and took on the job to make things right. We are very glad he did as he and his team did an outstanding job!

They corrected a botched bathroom job and made it look amazing while also adding full functionality to a low ceiling, old-Toronto basement - they dug down to all for a full stand-up shower that can be used comfortably by someone close to 7ft tall!

He made sure that all of the things behind the walls - electrical, plumbing, vents, insulation were done correctly. He made sure we took advantage of every square foot, including installing a back flow valve and giving access through a hidden door in the laundry room.

Overall, this was the kind of experience everyone should have with a contractor. Niall was upfront about price and schedule and met both - while going over and above on the scope of work and quality. We trusted Niall to work at our house while we were temporarily relocated and he took great care of our place. He is a contractor that has a lot of pride in his work, employs very good people, communicates well and does what he says he's going to do.

We feel very fortunate to have been referred to Niall through a friend who had a similarly great experience. He'll be at the top of our list for our next project - we just hope he's not booked up too far in advance (as all the good ones normally are!).

We need to remove supporting walls to have a open concept. Naill and his team were absolutely superb. The are highly skilled and fantastic to work with. They truly care about what they do highly recommend them.

We had Niall and his team fully renovate our main floor, replace our stairs and install a new powder room in our back extension. This is the second job we've had with Niall.

Niall's keen attention to detail + consistent (and very honest) communication was a valuable asset in this project. Niall was a great partner as we planned and scoped the project to ensure we invested in the areas that mattered.

We called Niall to rebuild our stairs to the basement, as well as add a post and railing. We also asked if he could put in new trim throughout, and install a new door to the cold room. He was quick to respond and provide a quote. He estimated he would be able to start the project in mid-February, which he did as promised. His team worked diligently to finish in just 3 days.

With other projects and contractors, we have dealt with poor communication, delays due to poor project management, dismissive attitudes etc. We were pleased with Carpentry At Its Best, and would definitely recommend Niall and his team because of their professional communication, their accurate timelines, friendly manner, and quality of their work.

I initially started this project with some degree of apprehension; afterall, this was the first time I was hiring a Carpenter/Framing Specialist (Niall is a General Contractor) to customize 8 ft French closet doors in a condo with 8 ft ceiling. And, this would all happen in a 780 sq ft Condo?

Right from the get go I felt at ease; Niall & a member of his crew- 'Billie' were thorough gentlemen, I felt very comfortable hanging around in my condo while they worked away with meticulous precision, dedication and focus. Billie has a soothing presence, he has the wisdom and intuition in the way he went about with organization, the physical space was very limited & little challenging at times to navigate; but never heard any complaint. These are true Professionals.

The smooth communication between them is an example of excellent Teamwork. I so wish my other contractors could demonstrate the same degree of professionalism & expertise.

I hope this Review also reassures those 'Individuals' who perhaps feel intimidated about hiring Carpenters/Framing Specialist; With Carpentry At Its Best, you are in safe hands and you will not be taken for a ride. Niall is upfront & honest, a man of Integrity; he had an opportunity to get some extra cash off me, which he didn't. In this day and age, who does that??? Niall stuck to the original Cost Estimate, no games. I also discussed another task for Niall to do in my Laundry area; Niall looked at it & told me "don't waste your money" he instead recommended suggested another cost effective upgrade that would help in my Condo Resale. It's hard to find such honest tradesmen in today's world.

Both Niall and Billie wore masks, thankfully, I didn't have to hear from my neighbours. They cleaned up the entire area thoroughly on both days.

The doors look gorgeous and sophisticated, it is not a walk in closet, but sure gives the appearance of one. I am so happy to end on this note: Folks, I now have a Go-to 'General Contractor". No more screening, my search for a tradesmen has ended!!!

I originally put in a request to build a door frame with double doors to block off a hall in the basement that was open. Niall and his team responded to my request immediately and kept us informed as to when the project could get started. Their workmanship was impeccable! We're very pleased with the outcome of our project... I have already discussed my next project with Niall! Thank you for a spectacular job well done!!
