Pretty Handy Guy

John is a delight to work with, I’ve been using him for all my home projects for five years now and I would wait for his schedule to open before trying to find anyone else. He does a great job, has a positive attitude and is generally pleasant to be around while he works.

I had him in to take down wainscotting that was covering my entire living room. He refinished and repainted the walls and installed some gorgeous crown mouldings that I get constant compliments about. I’d highly recommend John for all your home improvement needs!

I needed a handyman so I came on Homestars and searched for one with great reviews...Pretty Handy Guy (aka John) was top of the list! In September, I emailed him to ask when he was available and he said he was booking in November...my jaw dropped. Sucks for me, but great for him...he is obviously good if he was booked solid for 6-8 weeks. I told him I needed it done sooner so I would look elsewhere. I searched high and low for a trustworthy, reliable, personable, highly skilled handyman and came up with nothing...it is now November so I went back to John and asked him to put me on his list, which was now booking into January!! I got lucky and he called the next day and said he had a cancellation so we made it happen and he came over for 5 odd jobs. He was awesome. So friendly and excellent at what he does...I wasn't sure if he'd be able to fix 2 of the 5 things, but he did and made them even better than before. I had made a coat rack for the front hallway and he installed it for me...he even told me that he screwed it into the studs so it's extra strong for coats, which I hadn't even thought to do...he is clearly the expert!! He was literally a lifesaver...he hung my bedside lamp back on the wall, he fixed my closet shelf that was coming out of the wall, he installed a set of shelves in our bathroom, a coat rack in the hallway and installed the casing around our front door that was recently replaced. He was awesome!! He is coming back in January to do some painting and build wooden steps from our garage into our laundry room (we currently have cement blocks that are not sturdy). He is simply the best!! We absolutely recommend him!!!

Recently John, replace our old and tired porch ceiling with cedar. John was friendly and on time, he did great work. It looks so beautiful and added warmth to the house, thank you John for the excellent work. We would recommend your work and use your services again without hesitation. Thank-you Kimberley & Peter.

I found John through Homestars to complete a number of jobs around our home. His high reviews gave us confidence that he could complete this job up to our standards, and we were not disappointed.
He arrived on time, he works very cleanly and everything was completed exactly as we were expecting. I would definitely hire John again; highly recommended.

My husband and I had John tackle the difficult task of tearing down some very old, VERY stuck on wallpaper from our staircase hallway. I wanted someone who would be able to navigate both the difficulty of the wall height (some 16 feet over a staircase) as well as the poor shape the walls would be in post-removal. He handled it wonderfully. His patchwork is excellent and the walls look flawless.
He also painted the ceilings and walls in this area, as well as in our living room and dining room. On top of that we had lots of trim that was old school wood finish which required proper prepping and painting, and doors that needed painting as well.
Needless to say it was a transformation and worth every penny!
We will not be hesitating to call on John for any future projects as you can be sure that all work will be done on time, and with great skill and care.

This is the 2nd time in a year that we have hired John. His work is always excellent and completed in the time allocated and at reasonable rates.
We will be hiring John again before years end to complete more projects for us.

John has helped me out before, so happy to call on him again. Large paint project included very high ceilings and walls, dining room light fixture and drapery rods installed, doors painted. I know I can rely on John to do a great job, leaves a clean site, attention to detail, pride of work and offers a little humour along the way. I value his opinion and suggestions. John pained our old brick 2storey wall turning into a clean current looking space. He even washed the window for me as I can’t get up to clean that window. He always goes above and beyond in any of the work he has done for me.
The floors were done with precision ensuring that the wiring was properly hidden so that the room looks amazing.
Thanks to John who has helped me many times with renovations and I am lucky that he has patience to deal with me and my dad!

John did a number of repairs to trim and bathroom ceilings in our home, including repairing drywall, plastering and painting, and adding crown moulding in the bathroom. He was great about following through and fair on his estimates of time and pricing, and very neat and detail-oriented. I was very pleased with the work he did and would have him back again.
