Dryer vent in Basement and simple leaky sink repair

I recently had a similar poor experience with Michael Cousins.

We had 2 simple jobs: 1) we needed to replace the foil dryer vent tubing for rigid ducting for our dryer in the basement and 2) We had 2 leaky sinks which needed replacing...

Job #1) Michael was very personable when he provided the quote and touted his many years as a contractor. So when he provided the quote, which was very reasonable in my opinion, I scheduled the work as we were unable to use our dryer due to the foil tubing having given way.

When the job was complete everything seemed fine and he assured me again that all of his work was “guaranteed” and to just call if we had any issues. A few days later, while showing my wife the work I noticed that above the ceiling the 90 degree elbow was no longer connected to the vent tube outside. It was just blowing dust into the ceiling as the duct tape had given way. I texted and then called Michael to ask a few questions and to let him know and ask when he could stop by to fix the issue. He accused me of intentionally disconnecting the duct, which is ridiculous to think that I would disconnect the duct, just to have him return to fix it. He was adamant and has yet to return my calls or texts.

Since he refused to accept my calls, I called another contractor for an estimate to fix the job. He informed me that the connection between the 90 degree elbow and the exterior vent was held only with duct tape as they were both 4” ducts and neither had a crimp or coupling to ensure they were seated properly in a couple of areas. He recommended that I go to home depot and ask them for a 4” segment which will connect 2 4” pipes securely. So I did and $2.99 later all is well with the exception that Michael’s customer service was horrible.

Job #2) A few days later, my wife noticed that the BRAND NEW sink purchased from Michael for the master bathroom leaks even more now than before it was replaced by Michael. I tried to call him again with no answer, so I sent him a text along with the video to show the leak. Still no answer.

In any event, I have asked Michael to return Thursday this week to resolve the leaky sink. It’s the principal of the matter, contractors should be held accountable for their workmanship and it’s probably another $2 job or simply the tightening of a screw.

P.S. Michael, if you are reading this as opposed to submitting lame excuses, just come back and do the job you committed to.

Approximate cost of services:
$950.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
Actually do the job with the quality of workmanship the expressed during the initial consult.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Avoid Michael Cousins seems to be the growing theme. Google the contractor before committing.
