The contractor delivered extremely poor quality work. Floors were not level, rooms were painted the wrong colours, 1 coat of paint not the promised (and budgeted 3 coats), cabinets were installed incorrectly, door handles were installed upside-down, city inspector was not called in before closing the walls, spindles in stair railings were spaced unevenly.
The staff left a mess every time they were on site.
Invoices were very vague and some did not include a GST number. We asked several time for details on the billings. We did get details on materials but never got any information on hours of labour. We found errors in the invoices - things added incorrectly and sometimes added in twice.
Final billings were approximately 100% over the agreed to estimates at the outset of the project with NO WARNING WHATSOEVER from the contractor.
When we asked for invoice details he replied by placing a lien on our house. Two years later we finally settled ... good news is we paid him nothing on the settlement!
