Excellent Stairway Repair in Heritage House

We are very pleased with Victor's work and highly recommend him. Our original 1870s staircase was separating from the wall, creating instability and lots of creaking. We had delayed dealing with the situation because we were pretty sure that the fix would be time-consuming, messy and expensive. We are thrilled that Victor proved us wrong on all counts! His experience and great carpentry expertise enabled him to tackle only the risers and treads that were causing problems-- without having to do a major teardown of the under-stair area. Not only is Victor very skillful and honest-- he also takes great pride in his work and enjoys creative problem solving. We are so happy that he responded to our HomeStars request!

Complete bathroom reno

We have used Victor before for smaller jobs and were happy with his work. He just completed a sizeable bathroom reno for us. Victor and his team gutted and rebuilt the entire room and customized it with counter, cabinets and glass shower. We love our new bathroom. Victor takes a lot of pride in his work and it shows in the quality. As well, Victor is pleasant, respectful and easy to work with. He was committed to the project with enthusiasm from beginning to end. Many thanks Victor!

New Stair Treads and Risers

The stairs in our 100+ year old home had old carpet, and the treads beneath were very creaky and in need of some repair.

Victor and his team removed the carpet, removed the old glue and decades of gunk, and then cut and installed new treads and risers over top of the old. Due to their age the stairs are not straight, level or true in any way. Regardless, Victor did an unbelievable job. He really is a perfectionist, incredibly attentive to detail and a real master carpenter. For the landings he integrated the treads with the engineered hardwood we used for the floors. This required some complex and detailed carpentry work, which you would never know from how clean the install is.

Before, halfway (carpet off) and after photos are attached.

To save some money I pre-stained and then varnished the risers/treads, and also painted the railings and stringers myself. As always, Victor was happy to be flexible on the scope and we agreed on a price that worked for both of us.

We are as always with Victor's work extremely happy with the outcome - thanks again!

Subfloor repair and trim

We had flooring renovations underway in an old house, removing several layers of flooring, with a problem found under the kitchen flooring. On very short notice, Victor and his team were able to to come by to fix the problem and assist with floor leveling for a reasonable price. Victor and his team then returned after the flooring was complete to do an excellent job adding new trim and door jambs because so much flooring had been removed, making the trim look a lot straighter than the house itself. Victor is very clear with his plan beforehand and was happy to explain how the project was going along the way.

Basement Update

We needed to reconfigure a wall in our basement to improve access for storage and create a more functional tv wall. Victor and his crew were great to work with and always left the work area clean and tidy each day before they left. Victor is meticulous and has fine craftmanship, hes passionate about his work and ensures he delivers the highest level of quality. He walked us through every detail and step to make sure we were on the same page and we worked together on design changes where needed. We were so happy with his work that we hired him again to build our front porch railing. We highly recommend Victor!

Interior Doors Installation

I recently had the pleasure of working with Victor for a series of home improvement projects that included the installation of interior doors, building a walk-in pantry, and replacing the casing for our exterior patio door. I cannot emphasize enough how impressed I am with the exceptional craftsmanship and professionalism displayed by Victor.

The basement interior doors installation was carried out meticulously, ensuring a perfect fit and smooth operation. He anticipated numerous complications that arose and provided great suggestions on how to overcome them. Additionally, Victor transformed a section of the house into a walk-in pantry. It turned out being incredibly practical and It's evident that Victor pays attention to every detail, from the shelves to the door placement, making it a seamless addition to house. This project turned out better than I had envisioned. Lastly, the exterior patio door casing replacement was a task that required skill and knowledge of weatherproofing since there was significant damage. Victor went above and beyond by using appropriate materials to ensure that the casing would stand up to the elements for years to come.

I cannot recommend Victor highly enough for any carpentry project, be it interior doors, custom built-ins, or exterior casing replacement. His expertise, attention to detail, and focus on customer satisfaction and commitment to excellence make him a standout choice. What was even more appreciated was the fact that he actively sought my input, listened to my ideas, and made adjustments/recommendations as needed to ensure that the final results exceeded my expectations.

I am honestly satisfied with the results of our projects and will not hesitate to work with him in the future. Thank you for your outstanding work!

Kitchen and Bathroom Renovation

We recently hired Victory Carpentry to renovate the kitchen and upstairs bathroom in our 110 year old house and couldnt be happier with the result. The scope of the work involved a full gut of the bathroom and pretty well the same for the kitchen (one wall stayed largely intact, otherwise everything was rebuilt).

These are the reasons we think you should hire Victory Carpentry for your next project:

He is an excellent and experienced carpenter. Victor had previously replaced and levelled our main floor subfloor when we realized it was shot halfway through demolition by our hardwood contractor. It to be done very quickly as had a week before we needed to be out of our place. That work was completed exceptionally well, and he went above and beyond what other carpenters had proposed, carefully shaving some joists while sistering others, to create the best result. On that basis we knew he was the best choice for a full room renovation where we were likely going to run into the same issues and would need to meet existing out of level floors and walls, etc. Sure enough, Victor planned very carefully from the outset to maximize space (flipping the tub and using rigid insulation on one end for example) and also create the best aesthetic result. He also rerouted some ductwork, significantly increasing the airflow to the 2nd floor, fixed a cracked joist in the living room that he happened to see... the list goes on. Victor was quickly able to find great solutions for every weird twist and turn of our weird old house without missing a beat.

Victor is also a very good project manager. His sub-trades were all very knowledgeable, professional and most importantly consistently showed up when Victor scheduled them. This resulted in no delays to schedule due to lost time, which is so common in home renovations, especially when you are encountering and dealing with underlying issues which inevitably push the schedule a day or two as happened with us. The sub-trades were also all happy to talk about different options with us, and the electrician ended up doing some additional work adding outlets in our rear bedroom for a very fair price. Its a testament to Victor's reputation and credibility how well they all worked with him. His crew were also all good people (we called them our roommates by the end) and were very courteous and respectful of our home throughout.

Lastly Victor is just a very honest and straight forward contractor. We knew that whatever happened we could trust him to achieve the best result and give us fair pricing when we had to talk extras. The work took approximately marginally longer to complete than the target schedule, largely due to the need to redo some plumbing and HVAC, as well as to add a stud wall to protect previously un-insulated plumbing, all of which wasn't known until demolition commenced. However, Victor was clear with us from the beginning about the possibility of delays due to the unknown, and kept us very well advised of schedule throughout, calling at the end of every day to check in and provide an update.

It was a pleasure dealing with Victor throughout the job, including all the conversations about music, and we would be happy to work with Victory Carpentry again for our next reno. Thanks again!

Deck, landscaping, wood fence with metal posts, garage facelift,

I worked as a general labor in construction for many years, I've seen how things can go south.
Not with Victor. I know him for over a decade. He was introduced to me by our good neighbor which says a lot about someone's credibility. :-(
Victor is polite, easy going. He is willing to discuss the details as many times as necessary, always addressing the issues arising during the process even if it means he needs to redo something.
Having him on these projects gave us a peace of mind.
Planning, scheduling felt like having a good talk with a friend during a BBQ party.
He just finished our backyard, so we never ever need to sit on 400's for hours to get into cottage country.
With his ideas and expertise, he helped us to create a quiet neat sanctuary in the middle of city.
Our first project was the deck 12+ years ago.
When our puppy grown over 100lb, we had to get rid of the grass since it became a mud land.
We also wanted to make sure he can not jump the fence. So, the old ugly 4' chain-link fence had to go.
Obviously, we could not let the old garage without facelift. :-)

Excellent work

Victor was a pleasure to hire. He is honest, reliable and produces excellent work, a relief really, after the countless complications I had experienced with others. He completed a lengthy list of home improvements such as: mounting kitchen cupboard doors, bathroom cabinets, a large mirror, installing shutter magnets, towel racks and repairing and patching multiple walls; all was done to maximum satisfaction. Victor you are an awesome contractor, thank you for your expertise and connecting me to many other exceptional tradespeople.
