Unprofessional Installation, Lack of Service

Very unprofessional. I used Ecoline only because they promised to install the windows in time for me to sell the house. Installation was very unprofessional and dealing with the service department afterwards to repair damage is impossible. The installer damaged stucco on every door and window installed and did not seal windows properly. Ecoline refuses to make repairs. No qualified home inspector would consider these windows acceptable. See before and after photos. After photo shows an example of improper sealing and exposed stucco mesh.

Company Response

Ecoline Windows has the written confirmation from you, confirming that there were some major cracks to the stucco prior to the installation. Various pictures, made by our crew before installation, also prove it, together with the recording of the phone conversations, where you are indeed confirming that you were expecting installers to fix the cracks that occurred way before the windows installation.

Taking into account that the purpose of your review is to blackmail our company and to soil our reputation for no reason, we are forced to transfer your file to the legal department. Your warranty for windows will be voided until then.

RUN, RUN AWAY FAST. FIND SOMEONE ELSE.

My solid advice to you, dear reader, is to read all the 0, 1, 2 star reviews on google, HomeStars, BBB, and BELIEVE THEM. This company is awesome until installation. The installation crew that I got was unprofessional and disrespectful. Maybe you won’t end up with the crew I got, but do you want to take a chance? They argued when I asked them to put their masks to cover their faces. They left debris all over my door mat and garden. This could all have been forgiven but their workmanship was horrendous, almost non existent. The frame around my windows is mangled and some pieces are cut too short, some too long. Globs of caulking have been used to fill large gaps. I don’t think these guys even pulled out a measuring tape while they were cutting the finishing pieces. Go check out my photos and try and imagine yourself going to take a look at the finished work the next day when it’s light out. It was shocking, horrible. The pics you will see are my BRAND NEW WINDOWS. I stopped payment on my cheque. These guys make you pay in full before they start the job. What leverage do you have left after that? None. Since I stopped the cheque, they refuse to come back and finish the job. I want to be clear here. I would have been delighted to have fine new windows and pay Ecoline for a job well done. I would have loved to have been someone who could leave rave reviews, recommend this company left and right. These guys are not what they seem; there is so much irony reading their website after the fact. Who knows if the windows are even good quality. They take your money and leave a mess in their wake. I still have open walls and crappy windows. STAY AWAY. Pay a bit more and get some piece of mind.

Vancouver North Shore - 12 windows

BUYER BEWARE. Good reviews can be ‘’purchased’’ via cash back, bad ones cannot. Check BBB.org, Homestars.ca, yelp.ca, Google reviews
We originally contacted Ecoline to have 12 windows replaced. We are on the Vancouver North Shore and we were looking at double pane windows with clear glass to keep the natural light flowing into the house. Ecoline suggested that we should go for triple pane with Low E coating, for almost the same price, and also to take advantage of the BC hydro rebate. We mentioned several times that natural light was primordial, and we wanted clear glass, rebate or not it wasn’t a deal breaker. The representant reassured us about this concern. This was a mistake. The vendor never mentioned that the windows would be darker with a grey to blue tint when the sun hits the windows. The pictures talk for themselves. When we realized that the wrong windows got installed late June 2021, we stopped the installation process and ask the representant to come to the house right away to show him. He suggested that we finish the installation and deal with this issue afterwards. We called and called, sent emails, nobody got back to us. We then decided to post a review on Google after two months. Within half an hour, someone called us! The person said we would find a solution and ask us to remove the review. Good thing, we did not agree. At no point in time we could reach out to the regional manager. All communication got filtered at customer service, and it was very difficult to get names or any real contact information.
After several emails, Ecoline ordered a ‘’clearer’’ window sample to be produced, without us asking, and schedule for installation for comparison. The Covid situation not helping, it took several weeks to hear back and have it installed. It still wasn’t clear glass! What was then the point! The customer service representative, willing to help and find a resolution, ordered a second unit that got installed November 9th. The sample window was clear glass and got installed in the living room next to a large tinted window for comparison. We immediately contacted Customer Service happily thinking we found a resolution… but this wasn’t to be the case. This time Ecoline Customer Service called us back with a man on the phone. He didn’t introduce himself and was reluctant to give his name. From our understanding, he is the regional manager. First time after 5 months management contacted us for a conversation, where we screamed at and told to ‘’shut up’’: this conversation was recorded. In conclusion the man offered to replace only 4 windows out of 12. It was a stressful phone call. Why would we go all this way to have Ecoline say that they would only replace a couple of windows, and if we wanted more changed, it would be at our cost. We were hoping to have a very different conversation. We did not agree. The manager said that was that or nothing. And since then, the conversation has stopped. We are now left with an installed sample unit that has nothing to do with the rest of the windows. This sample is clear glass, all the other windows are tinted.

Having to deal with such issues, is stressful. Going into winter months, the house is darker. We work from home and that impacts our quality of life. When the sun is out and strike the windows, we have to deal with this non natural blue tinted light (see the pictures). After all the money and effort to improve our home, we feel that Ecoline 1-) neglected to tell us that 3 pane windows come with a blue/grey tint which darken your home, 2-) shuffled us around in the hopes that we would drop our complaint, only to conclude with an unprofessional aggressive conversation with a partial proposal.

We are devastated with what we have been put through in these past months as much as we are constantly reminded of the windows everytime the sun shines in and the light comes in grey. Please be aware and ask all the obvious questions. With a company such as Ecoline, we also advice you record all conversations.

Poor Customer Service and Installation

Our windows were poorly installed, as confirmed by their own service tech and a separate window company but Ecoline refuse to take responsibility to help fix the issue and won't respond to me now. One sliding window completely fell out of the frame without being touched and they are saying I need to pay the full amount to replace the window as the product is poorly designed and cant be fixed. The windows are less than 5 years old. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Company Response

Dear Christina,

Thank you for your feedback. Based on the information provided, the windows in question were misused. Unfortunately, the damages, caused by an incorrect operation of the window are not covered by the warranty. We can clearly see on the pictures you sent to our service department that this damage is mechanical, therefore we were forced to offer a quote for the whole window replacement.

Just don't do it

Just the worst service you can imagine.
Constantly miss appointments that they've scheduled with you or send crew without the necessary equipment to complete the scheduled task; absolutely no respect for the customers time. Even after many complaints and being reassured by the regional service manager the problems continue. This project is now over 15 months and still not complete. Not only that but they tried to make me pay for a second storm door when they ordered the wrong one. And their ability to manage multiple projects for the same customer is poor to non-existent.

Another problem is that they don't inspect the product before delivering or even installing it and then just install poor quality products or damaged products. From there it will take at least another 3 or 4 appointments, if not more, to replace the damaged item. I don't know about everyone else but my time is worth money; each appointment is time I'm taking off of work. This project alone I've must have had so far at least 12 appointments, not even exaggerating.

Looking at some of the bad reviews posted I really do believe every single one as they tell the trend of how this company deals with their mistakes. It's nice when everything works out correctly but these stories tell you how these guys behave when they don't and what these customers have to go through to get it rectified.

I will never recommend this company to anyone in my lifetime. 15 months and the project's still not done!

Stay away from Ecoline Windows

The true character of a person reveals in times of crisis. Sadly, this was my experience with Ecoline Windows.

In summary, we bought windows and blinds from Ecoline. Their staff installed the blinds incorrectly and, as a result, one of the windows (my five years old son's room) only opened up to one inch of clearance.

The problem could have been solved by returning our home to its original state before their staff mistake. Instead, Ecoline proceeded unprofessionally, unethically, and careless about the safety of our family. (Examples for each adjective used below)

To start, they offered only a solution, to fix the window that did not open and patch the holes. An offer we were not pleased with because we did not pay for patch/repaired windows.

Ecoline incompetence:
This one is the most obvious. The installer did not know what to do.

Ecoline Unethical Behavior:
1. After realizing that the first window the installer worked on did not open, We requested to stop his work and pack up. He finished the installation while We were on the phone talking to Ecoline support.

2. Their staff refused to get me in contact with their manager. I had to make up his email by finding his full name from their receptionist and using their company's email address convention (first letter of the name, plus last name, plus @ecolinewindows.ca).

3. Once I reached out to the manager, he refused to answer a simple question. Can you guarantee that offered solution will not be visible? (returning our home to its original state before their mistake)
It took over a month of back and forward emails and ultimately threatening them with legal action from him to guarantee his work.

4. They offered us to refund the installation fee. Later the refund was used as coercion to pressure us to move on with the repairs. In their own words: " We will send the cheque to you once everything is resolved".

Finally, why was Ecoline careless about the safety of our family:
The City of Calgary requires you to "Except where the suite is sprinkled, each bedroom or combination bedroom shall have at least one outside window or exterior door openable from the inside without the use of keys, tools or special knowledge and without the removal of sashes or hardware."

We asked them to fix the window while figuring out an agreement regarding the patchwork. It took over three months, countless emails, phone calls, and reaching out to one of their VP a couple of times, to get them to send their staff to remove the screw that was obstructing -my five years old son- window from opening.

In their manager's word, they would rather do " it all done together". (repairs and patchwork).

And if this is not enough, as of today (September 25, 2021), We are still waiting for the refund. They claim the cheque was sent twice but, base on my recent experience, it is hard to believe them.

In conclusion, do yourself a favor. Stay away from Ecoline Windows.

terrible service

We got a quote for garden doors that they did not honour….not once but twice. After our initial 2 hour consult, the salesperson gave us a quote on the wrong product as well, which led to the second quote that wasnt honoured. Management didnt honour the quotes given and offered no discpunt for our considerable time lost.

Stay far far away from this company

Ordered a front door in March. Contacted them for confirmation beginning of June and was told "Administration" would contact me very shortly for an install date. Finally made it through their horrible phone service this morning - July 12 after having heard crickets since June 4. Am told "maybe" by end July but won't give me a date. Have already paid $1000 and I am starting to wonder if this is actually a valid business. If so, this company is not one I would ever recommend doing business with. I'm wondering if they are hoping folks will get fed up and abandon their deposit if they delay long enough. People I actually got to speak to were very unhelpful but extremely well versed in their "contract" - i.e. we get paid regardless. Horrible business in my opinion and not trustworthy as far as I am concerned. While I get that there are unexpected delays that can occur - and the contact center folks may not be the most expert - the bare bones minimum any reputable company can and should do (and this IS under their control) is keep their customers updated - basic common courtesy guys. As in my case, often the piece this bunch is doing is only one of many - and everything has to be scheduled. Ecoline is NOT doing me a favor by accepting my business - its the other way around in case you haven't yet figured that out. Ecoline is not the only nor the most important piece of this project. The "project co-ordinator" clearly understood this when the estimate was made. When I phone the "direct" line of the project person only to find the number no longer in service, it does raise some doubts. So far I have found this company to be unreliable, the opposite of customer focused, unhelpful and very much concerned they get paid no matter what (i.e. customer satisfaction a dim and distant second apparently). I live in Ladysmith so perhaps other areas have more professional franchises or branches - can only hope for the sake of their customers that is the case. Thank God I didn't have them do my windows. I am hoping their install (if it EVER happens) will at least be competent but not very confident. Glad my lawyer is a family friend.

Company Response

Dear Sue,

Please, accept our apologies for the delays caused by COVID-19. We can see that the commencement date on your contract was June / July, therefore we contacted you in the middle of June to give you an update and to notify of possible delays. Unfortunately, the new normal we live in is dictating its own rules, and this possible delay is connected with the reduced capacity on the production line.

We are still hoping to fulfil your commencement and to perform the installation until the end of July, however there is a chance of slight delays.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Windows replacement

The worst company that I have ever worked with. The worst response from the management, Poorest service. worst quality especially the windows screen. The delivered & installed window is 3 to 4" less in size and then nobody takes responsibility for that. Don't go for Ecoline if you have any other options.

Company Response

Dear Anil,

Since the moment you raised your concern, Ecoline Windows has been constantly in contact with you. On the day of installation, you received at least 6 calls from our customer service department, your project manager, and our regional manager. After that we scheduled an inspection which was completed just several days after installation. Taking all that into consideration, we were confused to read that you did not receive enough feedback from our side.

On the day of installation you told one of our agents that the crew was great and you had no complaints towards the quality of installation. The screens are always quite fragile, and we would like to clarify that your screen did not break down, but it is only a tiny hole in the mesh, nothing more. The service appointment has been scheduled right after you reported that issue, and we are glad to visit you on July 7th to re-mesh the screen. On a good side, we are extremely glad that apart from this tiny hole in the screen there are no further installation concerns!

Please, note that our customer service department is in touch to address any possible concerns and warranty questions.
