Having heard quite a bit of reno-related horror stories, we had a lot of concerns as well as questions at the beginning of our below grade insulation, waterproofing and full basement reno project. We wanted to avoid costly mistakes and minimize reno-related stresses if we could. Luckily, we chanced upon The Reno Coach through online research and after our first meeting, we knew Reiner will bring in the necessary know-how and due diligence services we were looking for to approach our project with more confidence and peace of mind.

Initial consultations with him defined the possibilities for us both in financial and construction terms. His knowledge helped in setting realistic budget and expectations early on. We went ahead and engaged The Reno Coach from the get go and got him involved every step of the way - from discussing our renovation goals and requirements, estimating project cost, identifying potential areas of savings and trade-offs, selectively hiring a designer and contractors well suited and qualified for our project, getting multiple bids, reviewing contract agreement, permitting, to doing inspection, spot checks and quality controls during the renovation process.

We couldn’t be happier with our decision. Reiner was able to ensure that our reno work commenced and progressed to completion successfully. His overall expertise and work ethic made what was initially a daunting task and challenging proposition into a satisfying endeavour - with time, money and resources justified and well spent. We look forward to working with Reiner again on the second phase of our home renovation this Spring!

We hired Reiner (The Reno Coach) in early 2015 after our initial contractor went bankrupt and left us with an empty shell of a house. Reiner was able to get the project back on track very quickly by bringing in multiple contractors to quote on finishing the job. Ultimately we selected a contractor that he found for us, and the job was finished on time and on budget. In fact, it was well UNDER budget since the new contractor that Reiner found gave us a better price than the original guy who went bankrupt. He was also a strong advocate for us with respect to some insurance-related aspects of the project.

For anyone who is undertaking a major, lengthy/complicated renovation I would highly recommend hiring the Reno Coach . Not only will he be able to help you select the right contractor for the job but he's "in your corner" all the way along, making sure the job gets done right, on time, and on budget. You definitely want someone with his experience when you're dealing with contractors, insurance adjusters, etc.

This is the third time I've had the pleasure of working with Reiner. Again, his work was truly excellent. My entire front porch needed to be replaced (brick pillars, joists, flooring, skirting, steps, posts, cement footings, rails, and custom balusters). Reiner coordinated the project expertly. He helped me find an experienced and affordable carpenter and brick mason, both of whom completed the job to a high standard, on time, and on budget because of Reiner's terrific supervision. Reiner also gave me valuable advice about materials and construction needs, ensuring that I had high quality products but did not unnecessarily overbuild. I was thrilled with the final product. I thoroughly recommend Reiner, and look forward to working with him again!

I used Reiner's service for a major renovation of the entire basement and mainfloor bathrooms as well. Reiner was an invaluable resource when it came to recommending and selecting the architectural and construction people to work with. He has extensive knowledge and experience and provided invaluable advice. Reiner is always punctual for appointments, responds to email and returns phone calls promptly and is a pleasure to work with.

We used Reiner as a consultant for a large scale project that ranged from demolition to a second level addition. Reiner's scope of work was direction on many activities such as technical drawings, sourcing of general contractor, permit approval, engineering alternatives, to occasional advice over a coffee during the life of the project. Reiner is fantastic to work with and is a positive expense to the project; specifically, Reiner saved me more money than his invoice at the end of my project. Reiner is very well established in the industry therefore he can bring a lot of resources to any project.

I happily echo the other positive reviews about Reiner- don't consider a big or tricky job without him! We bought a 1920s house and planned a moderate-sized renovation to update it. Sadly, the house was full of dangerous electrical and plumbing work done by the previous homeowner and mold. We were so glad we hired Reiner to help us through it! He helped find us an incredible contactor- Angel at Ontario Villa- and went above and beyond to keep our project on time and organized. He was consistently responsive and helpful. A few times, I wondered how it's humanly possible to work as hard as Reiner, especially receiving emails at all hours and seeing him drop by the job so frequently. The city is full of bad work, high costs and shady companies. For an extremely reasonable price, Reiner is a knight in shining armour! We'd be happy to be a reference.

I used Reiner's services for my first non-condominium income property. I needed the apartments in the triplex to be renovated and didn't know where to begin. Reiner took care of everything from finding qualified contractors to getting the permits, and getting the designer. I'm out of town, so I had peace of mind that he was checking in on how the reno was going. I would use his services again for sure.

Recently had all windows changed with Reiner' s windows triple panes from Germany. Last winter damaged many of the windows. Reiner's windows are customer made from Germany. Worth the wait. About two months. Amazing windows. Fibreglass frame, well made very beautiful. Triple pane is outstanding.

Reiner made the process from measuring, ordering, delivery and installation- very professional as usual.

Had Reiner before for a major renovation. Recommend Reiner again. He makes renovation with peace of mind.

Reiner was a great help in getting helping us think through a major job of underpinning our basement then refinishing it. We had previously renovated upstairs and the experience of trying to manage the contractor who worked at his own pace had left my wife and me mentally fatigued, so we turned to Reiner for this second phase of the renovation. We are very happy that we did so!

He gave us very good advice and patiently explained trade-offs. He helped us select contractors and finalize contracts (including delay penalties!). Once the job started he was great at managing them and making sure the work was up to his high expectations and relatively on track. I also believe that with his sourcing and management of the contractors we saved more money than we spent on his fees!

I have already recommended him to friends. My one advice would be get Reiner in early (before even talking to architects) as he can then make sure all things are done right from the start and you don't need to back track.

Reiner has taken the stress right out of the project, be it handling difficult neighbors, understanding our options and costs, and how best to deal with the adminstrative components. He is even helping us clear up issues that we have uncovered from a previous renovation much to our disgust (with the previous contractor). The people he has recommended have been excellent and we've had compliments from some of our suppliers even as to how pleasant and professional they all are. I could not recommend The Reno Coach more strongly.

More about The Reno Coach

When it comes to home renovations, what you don't know really can hurt you.TM

That's because successful renovations aren't as easy as they seem. Far from it. Behind what looks like a simple process lurks the potential for very expensive, very frustrating lessons. In fact, it's more than just potential. The frequency of catastrophic cost over-runs, shoddy workmanship, pro-longed timelines and dishonesty in the trades is high and rising. And even if your contractor is completely trustworthy there's still the reality that his errors, however honest, still cost you in the end.

Why assume this kind of risk, when a renovation coach can eliminate it?

The Reno Coach is a consulting and coaching company for contractors and home owners. We service the GTA and are a fee-based impartial advisor assisting homeowners and contractors in avoiding the pitfalls typically experienced during renovations. Let our 30 years experience in the construction and renovation industries work for you.
